2024 Favourite Moments
The RPM Challenge is full of ups and downs. Here are some of people’s favourite moments from this year. Check out the big list of completed projects here.
{AN}EeL | Green Ting | It came together very fluidly | LINK | |
---|---|---|---|---|
$ense | What We Went Through | Best moment was cutting ourselves some slack. | LINK | |
Aaron Parys | RPM 2024 | The Sound just jumped out as soon has I started Playing and just had to continue .. Actual Full Length is 15+ Minute's | LINK | |
Abbott & Hanlon | RPM Challenge 2024 | All of the snowstorms that conspired against this project being recorded | LINK | |
Abi Ai | Sun Shined and Then Rained | When I shared it with my sister for critiques and she said she didn't understand what I was saying for the first half but got after it a bit. Diction is not my strong suit. But I'm glad she liked it. | LINK | |
ABSTRXN | Accidental Hypervelocity: Volume I | Jamming with Coyote Senate is always a blast! | LINK | |
acoustic | RPM 2024 | Just that I got it done. | LINK | |
acoustichewy | The Disconcerting Domain of Diminishing Returns | A memorable moment probably had to be "Wild Things." That didn't even begin to exist until about 2 am on Saturday morning (2/10),after the first push of any recording this challenge, on what had begun as a Friday evening. And then it just...fell out. Ninety minutes later when I finally went to bed, I had all the guitar and lyrics recorded for this unexpected bonus song. I certainly didn't consciously set out to begin writing a whole new song at that late (or early?) hour, and if I had, I wouldn't have set out to write it about that. It just...fell out of me, and those are the best the moments to live for as an artist. | LINK | |
ADDEND | No. 4 | When I thought that I might not make the deadline! | LINK | |
admm | the leak | rehearsal space started leaking | LINK | |
agary bock | feet and ears | Sifting through the recordings used to mix this, triggered great memories from the time period in which it was recorded. | LINK | |
Åge | ÅGES bestemord | Granny Nomination | LINK | |
AKAP | RPM 2024 | Once the I reviewed the sounds I first recorded I knew this is What I was Searching for | LINK | |
Al Bee | What Gives? | Wasn't sure whether to continue pursuing a track which was a sort of dark twisted piece of Eighties synth-pop. It needed something else. Next thing you know I was writing a little passage reminiscing about the Eighties and moaning about Margaret Thatcher. My album of background music had suddenly got a bit political. Ha ha. And I wasn't even drinking. | LINK | |
Alex Fae | Tender Embraces | taking photos for the album artwork | LINK | |
Alias (ten years later) | This little life | The title track was written and recorded on the last day of this challenge. | LINK | |
AlienXXX | The Pads of Paddington | Deciding on the name (this came before the trakcs) and deciding that noise would be a big part of it. | LINK | |
ALVU | Dreams | I spent a couple days working on the "stringed" instruments on Sulfur, and when I finished I kind of felt like a real musician weirdly enough haha. The end result just felt so.. epic and cool, I am immensely proud of the time I put into that track. | LINK | |
am/fm dreams | Tropical Depression | Playing around with all the weird synth sounds, laughing at Marc trying to teach his his songs and chords he invented for them. | LINK | |
Amelia Wilcox | Small Increments | Writing a song about getting my blood drawn was pretty fun and unique for me. | LINK | |
Amos Clapp and the Tender Touch | The Grind and The Grey | All of it | LINK | |
AMUC | Creatio Ex Tenebris Nihil | The last minute track I did at the end was a pleasant surprise. It came together in about two hours. | LINK | |
angie fights crime | FULL MINGO | watching Ash come up with vocal harmonies on the fly. | LINK | |
Angus McFadden | Bene Vixit Iuvenis | Maybe. | LINK | |
Angus McFadden | The Contingency EP | Yes, there was. | LINK | |
Anne Dorko | conceptual | When I shared the song idea for Tell Me Your Story and people so instantly connected with it. | LINK | |
Anton Samford | The Eternal Illusion | Listening to the completed album in full. | LINK | |
Apple Cinnamon | Third Try | The 13/8 time signature in Disorderly! | LINK | |
Apples of New England | Apples of New England | The moment it was D O N E. (And listening to it as I fill out this form.) | LINK | |
Apraxia | Scratch Paper | Yes, we did this remote 2/3 of the group is in Louisiana, and the other in Tampa, FL. Hearing the drums, bass, and sax added in for the first time made this special for sure. | LINK | |
Atlanta Trash Collective | Surfterfuge | I had one full day to work on it (among other piecemeal time spent on it),that one day was awesome. | LINK | |
AuOH | CBT 1 - "the humbler" | Using this VST for the first time and exploring how you can make creative pieces just with it...a very versatile instrument. | LINK | |
AURORAE | l’anomalia | I had a big breakthrough 3 days before the end of the challenge and took 2 days off from work to make it happen! My boss is an artist, he will approve. | LINK | |
BackspinZX | Nightlife | Nightrunner coming together early on really managed to give me a surge of momentum. I felt accomplished in what I'd made, the friends I'd showed it to seemed to like it a lot and were really supportive over it, so that was the moment the rest of the challenge started coming together for me for sure. | LINK | |
Balloon Marsupials | Message from the Past | That we managed to use a recorder and it actually sounded good! | LINK | |
Bay Mud | A Quiet Celebration | During an initial playtest for a friend I realized the entire track was composed of manglings and resamples of the same initial sound, which was a happy accident | LINK | |
Behind T!me | 100 Disclaimers | I almost gave up when I was two weeks in and didn't have anything I was happy with. One weekend came where we were kind of snowed in and I was able to create the basis of songs I ended up finishing. Was a close call though! | LINK | |
Ben Century | Why? | When I finally came up with an intro. I struggled with that. | LINK | |
Ben's Ekman Spiral | Singularité | When the mix is finish, it was the first time I went deeply into that and it was a revelation | LINK | |
Bennett Rabiega | Somewhere Southeast of Here | There were two: 1) When I finished writing the songs and felt really good about them and 2) Hearing the completed recordings and feeling that it sounded just as I intended it to. | LINK | |
Beyond the Limes | Sunset of a Mindset | The entire thing, really, was a joy to make. The music, ideas and lyrics just seemed to flow effortlessly. | LINK | |
biilborbillb | Songs for Every Mood | Titling our little babbies | LINK | |
Bill De Martino | Brittle Bones Jones | Getting up the courage to do the vocals even though I knew they would be bad was a special moment. | LINK | |
BJ Boyd | Other | I tried recording multiple versions to portable recorders, but I kept coming back to the version I recorded using Tracktion Waveform. I particularly enjoyed using the dual guitar IR plugin. Although I wanted to make a 3 or 4 track EP I'm glad I just focussed on just this one track that ended up being entirely different from what I thought it would be. | LINK | |
Black Auks | 7 Dreams of Dr Aukikus | We occasionally had connectivity issues but worked with it. | LINK | |
BLEAK WİNTER | ø | The moment the main idea of the track finally clicked was one of the most satisfying moments, after looking for the right feel for days on end | LINK | |
Bleepeater | Evilutions | Yes catching the coin counting machine in the bank which became the track killer for Money | LINK | |
bodydouble | Lullabies for an Anxious Mind | They were all good moments :) | LINK | |
Boys Dressed As Witches | Self Titled Demo | I never wrote lyrics to so many songs in one day! | LINK | |
brainstorm Sheen | Big Broken Machine | This record helped me not drink | LINK | |
Brandon Brooks | Insomniac | After losing my voice for the entirety of January, I didn't think I was going to be able to sing for awhile. I learned about February Album Writing Month, and threw myself at it with the intent of getting my voice back to normal and getting back into the swing of writing. I loved the process of having to work on something and not second guess or overanalyze yourself. Actually FINISHING songs! It was rewarding, especially with no planning and only one month. | LINK | |
Breaking Light | Abstract Oblique | The EP was recorded during a very busy, stressful month of moving everything I owned, which is a lot of shit. | LINK | |
Brogan White | Constant State of Paranoia | The greatest moment while making this record was being nervous about how the final products of the songs sounded and then being obsessed with them and loving every second of them in the end. | LINK | |
Brutha Cutch | Not Done Ye... | My memories are the times when working with friends. I also worked on a song with my daughter, which is not immortalized forever. | LINK | |
Bukupanda | Bukstrumental 4080 | When I pulled the vocals and heard how good it was (to me) without them | LINK | |
C Alex | On command | It was just nice to make something! | LINK | |
Caitlin Piper | Compulsion to Stand | Recording in nearly every room of my house during a major construction project was definitely memorable. I had good luck with technology and enjoyed the process of adding multiple layers to each song. | LINK | |
CANCEL FACE | Selected Akai-based Works 20-24 | I recorded the piano on Track 1 in a single take, liked it so much I kept it! | LINK | |
Carson Dalton | Nostalgia | The Recording process was a new experience | LINK | |
Cat Amongst The Pigeons | Sunny Disposition EP | When I finally managed to lay down the rap in 'Comfortable Courting' and build a nest around it. It was after midnight and the metre was so unnatural that I kept making mistakes and having to retake. I knew that if I went to bed I wouldn't be able to make those lyrics fit in the morning so I kept going. I managed to lay the rap down well and as soon as I syncopated the drums around it and heard the way it sounded I knew that this track was gonna work. | LINK | |
Centrale Electrique | To Place The Final Piece | As always, the dark night of the soul moments that occur as time is running short and you regret ever signing up are the most memorable! | LINK | |
Chai Maca | Perché diventi pallida? | When I lost the synth patch forever... and decided to go along and compose the song with the only 2 chords I recorded with it | LINK | |
Chalices | Somebody Else to Blame | Sitting backstage feeling like shit about myself and deciding to stroke my own ego by completing a song | LINK | |
Chapter 13 | Welcome 2 The Core | During the making of this song, our singer couldnt help himself when it came to singing "Shalalala yeaah" from mr.jones during the end of a take. This was picked up through the guitars sound hole and made its way on to the final take leaving us with a little counting crows easter egg. | LINK | |
Chris Anderson | Goodbye Eden | Every moment was equally thrilling, exhilarating, exhausting, frustrating, exciting, and oh so ragged and right. | LINK | |
Chris Cooke | Phoning It In | I really did enjoy jamming with my friend around the campfire, even if the "music" we made requires air quotes. | LINK | |
Chris Sabatini | Four Track Archives | There is just something really sublime about hearing yourself sing a song two decades later and have no recollection of the recording being made. | LINK | |
Citric Astrid | Slices of Life | Pop & Me came together very organically | LINK | |

Cole Stanfield | Going Sideways | getting my piano | LINK | |
Commander Sunset | My Pronouns | My studio is so boring. My equitment does not listen. I have to bring the fire everytime. | LINK | |
Corporate Mind | Rhythmic Peculiarities | Some of the interesting interactions of text to speech coinciding interestingly with established tracks. | LINK | |
Count Cromulent | Monorail | This was a tough one - hitting the submit button! ) | LINK | |

Crunch Man | The Crunch Beats | Great melody I made one day | LINK | |
Cybernetic Voyager | Recharging in the Particle Storm | Playing piano sounds with a MIDI guitar for the first time. | LINK | |
dadii | Songs About Men... | I wrote the music for DEAD MANN WALKING in about 20 minutes, did a single take of the vocals and had this moment of euphoria where I felt like I had come upon a rare gemstone of a song. Of all the art I've made, I think that's one that makes the highlight to revisit later on when I've developed my skills further. It was a blast to compose and even more fun to record! I'd love to play it live some day. | LINK | |
Dandy From Home | He Waits | Calling off work to finish it lol | LINK | |

DAVI BARDO | Routine | When all the instrumental came together | LINK | |
David Caruk | Soundscapes1 | The moment when I played it back on an mp3 player and I realized that it is my creation. | LINK | |

David Fazzino | Instant Regret | getting sick at the end of February and writing lyrics in bed in a mild state of delirium | LINK | |

Distinct Kicking Motion | Escape Plans | When I nailed down the concept and the lyrics practically wrote themselves | LINK | |
Doctor Coffee | 20 Songs 20 Days | By day 17 I was losing it. It is really hard to record 20 songs in 20 days. But I was surprised at how good the final tracks turned out. | LINK | |

Firephly | Silent Blur | When it all came together! | LINK | |
First Born Sun | The Serotonin Harvest | This was one of the most intensive 4 weeks of music ever for me as 7 of the 9 songs were written in February. There was a point when a theme started to form around the songs and this was a memorable moment. | LINK | |

Glitch M3owT | Static Hiccups | Laughing my ass off, realizing all of the weird sounds I could perform with. | LINK | |

Golly | Teleautomatic | The rush of the home stretch. | LINK | |
GRAVEYARD SHIFT | GRAVEYARD SHIFT | I was a bit stuck on lyrics for a bit and then one morning during a heavy snowstorm, I had an extremely unnerving lucid dream where I felt as though I was awake in reality, but knew I was dreaming. I woke up and immediately started jotting down ideas and wrote most of the lyrics for this EP in the following 5 minutes. | LINK | |
Grogbit | Serf & Turf | It was all great fun! | LINK | |
GUCCI egg | FEBRUARY | This was initially a two person recording project but due to lost files, broken PCs, and DAW issues it has come out as just a beat tape. We're going to think of these tracks as a starting point for the real record | LINK | |

Justin Mathews | Game Theory for Non-Gamers | Getting track 5 recorded after having it stuck in my head for 6 months! | LINK | |

names of the dead | Astaüand | Being done. Again. Knowing that completion is within reach and not all of it sounds cringy. | LINK | |
Nate Monoxide | NEONEON | Finally finishing the song 'Burning Bridges' was a big moment for me. I'd been holding onto that guitar riff and concept since 2012 but never sat down to record it until now. | LINK | |
Nazir | Nasty Naz | Yes I had a great memory of hanging out with friends | LINK | |
Nigel Moss | A Room With A View | Realising that it *was* going to be finished | LINK | |

North of the Checkerboard | Turner's Shadow | crushin a few beers, getting it done, happy days :) | LINK | |
Not Quiet Noise | ...But Quieter Noise | There were many moments where I didn't think I'd find time or energy to record, so this moment of completion is especially sweet. | LINK | |
nurture nurture | Emergence | When I first listened back to the final version of my song about how hard sobriety is, I teared up a little bit. | LINK | |
Oddball | Where We Going? (Pond Funk Party) | Liking the funk backing track, then loving the song completely with the vocals added! | LINK | |
oddSTAR | This Twilight Garden: Live Looping Sessions Volume 2 | It was a bittersweet venture as these sounds take me back to a difficult time, but it means the world to me to finally offer them in a form that I am proud to share. I think everything turned out beautifully and really tells our story without the need for words. | LINK | |
Olive Astronaut | Recipe for Disaster VII | Finally figuring out the vocal chain and getting the vocals to sound useable. | LINK | |
Omega 13 | I Can't Remember Portland | The day I finally figured out the first verse, two days before deadline | LINK | |
Ouroboros | The Endless Knot | Getting a not-so-subtle hint from the Universe to trust myself and follow my muse. | LINK | |
pami | the anatomy of plants | This was originally meant to be a 3 song EP, but one evening Jake noticed that parts of the song "faces and flowers", would work as a round, and so we sat and recorded track one (a round) spontaneously one night, and it worked beautifully! I've been talking about writing a round for over a year, and one seems to have materialized on its own! | LINK | |
Panda Face | Triangle Dream EP | Listening to it when it was completed | LINK | |
particledots | The arc of fruitless intensification | It was hard this year - all of it | LINK | |
Passing on the Right | Pride | We recorded 6 songs in a 48 hour period. It was great to push ourselves in a way we normally wouldn't. | LINK | |
Paste The Sky | Death of a Mystery | The point where I overcame the despair and negativity and found what I did to be instrinsically worthwhile. | LINK | |
Pastel Emergency | Pistachio | Playing off each other’s creativity | LINK | |
Pat Sloan | New Seed | When I finally finished it! | LINK | |
Personal Space Invaders (Brian Downton) | Random Noises. A.I. Choices | Snow lots of snow | LINK | |
Peter Menzies | I Hate Cell Phones | The line about nose hair. | LINK | |
PHIL-IN-THE-BLANK | Redumbdantly | Finishing | LINK | |
phog masheeen | In Plain Sight | There were moments, mostly of panic to come up with something to write about. I would fall back on notes in my phone for songs. | LINK | |
pink smog | ◦ ✶ ✺ kissburn ✺ ✶ ◦ | Trying to digitally recreate a d-beat. | LINK | |
plain view | Cellardoor | This was an iterative process with individual small improvements being made along the way piece by piece. The payoff is now hearing it all come together in the end! | LINK | |
Pleasant Ditch | Word | Finishing first track. | LINK | |
Poloma | Momentary Feeling | when i finished it | LINK | |
Port-Aux-Poutines | Le Rossignol | The collaboration with talented artists was the most memorable moment, as well as what made this song possible. | LINK | |
Preset1 | the surfer jettes | i wrote a cool bassline at one point i think. honestly, it's all sort of a blur | LINK | |
Psychic Sperm | Suddenly Pants | Sajid's parent's food | LINK | |
public art space | you are invited to enter and gently touch this installation | each and every moment spent creating together is eternally special. | LINK | |
Pumpkin Mouth | Method Actor | Seeing the cover Jocelyn Mackenzie came up with was fun. | LINK | |
QLOI | The Tuvaq Demos | Adding an Eq pedal after my Big Muff was a great idea. | LINK | |
quiet abandon | rapid prismatic miasma | 🌈 | LINK | |
Quinn | Songs About A Nightmare I Once Had | Fitting people and sounds I like into music gave me a different appreciation for it. | LINK | |
Ralph Jeremiah | We'll Be Okay | Learning that I could write lyrics again | LINK | |
Reconsider | RPM 2024 | The moment I was writing lyrics a few days ago, and realized, "oh wow...I've got 8 songs with actual, honest-to-goodness lyrics. I should probably push and make that 10." And it's always fun to record a song with the keedos. | LINK | |
Red Queen Hypothesis | Redecorate with Gamma Rays | My 9 year old got involved this year and helped to sing on a song | LINK | |
Reverian | Alone | I impulsively bought a new guitar half way through the month and re-recorded a few tracks in a way that made me happy. | LINK | |
richaux | My Achilles Is My Achilles | That rupturing my Achilles a few weeks back wasn't all bad: it led to the album title. | LINK | |
Ricia Rae | A Drop of Light | When I inadvertently recorded the sound of chopping vegetables in the background of one track - with enough reverb it made for a cool sound. | LINK | |
Rob Hailman | From Saturday to Monday | The first listen back after tracking vocals for all the songs - "hot damn, this is really gonna be a record!" | LINK | |
Rob Parker | The Potato Situation | Nothing stands out. It's all just sort of meh this year. | LINK | |
RobC | Frog Salad! The Rough Reel Production Month Attempt | I think a crucial moment was when I decided to forget about listen-ability and just "sing", if you can call it that, and mangle guitar. By now you'll have worked out I don't really play the damn gitbox, I just record chords and splice them together like Delia Derbyshire. Runner-up would be coming up with "Cheese on Toast for Breakfast" in the shower after doing just that. | LINK | |
Rollos | The Hole Left Behind | Confronting the abusers and emotions directly after 20 years of pent of emotions led to such a gratifying and freeing feeling. | LINK | |
Ross Williams | Progress | When I could quickly see it forming into an album. | LINK | |
Safari | The Tape | Going DAWless was a huge step forward for me, as I was going through a bit of a creative block not being able to just hit record and jam. It was an ease of access thing. With a DAW I have to sequence, record, re-dub, etc... and I wanted to break free from that. So just being able to push something out in one-take whether it be good or bad was really refreshing. | LINK | |
Salman Ahad | Out of Death, Together | I think when the melody clicked for The Baby, it was truly magical and especially when I put it under the actual tracking, there was something really magical to all that. | LINK | |
Sandra Glorkle | Sandra Glorkle 8 | Touching the electric fence. | LINK | |
Saria Foxx | Let’s Go Places | Seeing it spark joy✨ | LINK | |
Saucy Voxel | Hello World | The theme of the process of making this album was that it was often very funny. I committed to some pretty unhinged ideas but what takes the cake for me was the luck that when I learned how to use a gate, it was exactly what "Something Bad Happened On The Farm" needed to elevate from boring outtake to something I scream laughed at. | LINK | |
Savory Flakes | WITH A FORK | Basking in the genius of friends. | LINK | |
Schismogenesis | Schismogenesis | Around the middle when I got to the point where I wasn't so self conscious and I made a track called "Marcato" that's super trippy and dramatic- when I stopped worrying about whether is was any good was when it started to be fun. | LINK | |
Schmex | Break a Leg | It's always fun laying down the vocal tracks and the violin bits of all our songs. So... there... | LINK | |
Securitron | Post-Apocalyptic Eras | The writing process is always the funnest part. There were moments during the writing of this album that I surprised myself with the riffs I was coming up with. | LINK | |
Serene Dominic | Time Tunnel | Bumping two songs together that had o business being together. | LINK | |
Sha-Pink | Vibrator | When we finished it. | LINK | |

Some Racket | Some Racket I | The Vocal Harmonies! The clips were fun too. | LINK | |
Sooky Couch Girls | Two Steps | Doing the live-off-the-floor recording was very memorable as it was the first time any of us had recorded music that way! So it was a huge learning experience and we loved it. | LINK | |
Soul Face | Intention Dimension | I really enjoyed deciding which parts of the speeches I wanted to sample. | LINK | |
Spacetruck | The Tuckening | No singular great moment. They were all great. | LINK | |
Spice Rack Collective | ... So Many Stories | As usual, the whole process was a blast, and the biggest kick (for Your Friend and Humble Narrator, anyway) was the first playback for a couple of particular tracks, for different reasons. That gleeful giggle is a high point every year! | LINK | |
Squawk Box | MCA 7 - Good Bye Phresh | all of em | LINK | |
squelch | manifold prisoner | yes | LINK | |
Stallions of Sound | SOS | all good in the hood | LINK | |
Stefans_isch | Spud | finishing it last second!! | LINK | |
Stephen Nash | The Place Where You've Let Go | A couple of nice moments.. Dreaming up the half time outro and making it work with some original lyrics that had not yet been incorporated felt great. The lyrics came very easily once I got going which was also great. | LINK | |
Stephen Portrie II | New Material Live 2|24|24 | I enjoyed all of it. | LINK | |
Steve Hoskins | Mine EP | I made a snare drum and used it on a few tracks | LINK | |
Suburban Behemoth | Overwhelmed and Fumbling (Instrumental) | I ran the drum track into an organ speaker simulator. | LINK | |
Summer Field | Stuck! | Being able to produce so much music in so little time was something I didn't think I could do. Though the results are very scatter brained. | LINK | |
T.Z1 | Willoughby | it was all good! | LINK | |
Tapes In Motion | RPM 2024 | The most memorable moment that comes to mind is when we invited a bunch of friends over to record group vocals for 'What Did Your Lover Say?'. | LINK | |
TB8S | Post Processing | Getting on a roll until 3 in the morning one night working on a few songs. | LINK | |
Temenos | Binary Shadows | My audio gear started failing, but I didn't give up! | LINK | |
TemporarySolution | Baby Space Station | Strumming "on" a speak and spell. | LINK | |
Tessa Cecilia | The Paths We Took With No One Watching | Being able to hear the layers of sounds and then being able to create them as envisioned. | LINK | |
Texturions | THIS | n Ope | LINK | |
The Ames Window | The Ames Window | minor electrical fire | LINK | |
The Arlington Arguments | We've All Come To Be Here From Somewhere | Finding a voice memo of my son when he was four years old on my phone and taking a slightly disjointed phrase he said and turning it into a completed song, and being able to add him on the track from that voice memo. | LINK | |
The Beer Rats | Rat Tracks Vol. II | Abbi Sleeper and Laura Manzi helped with sick album artwork | LINK | |
The Calculus Affair | RPM0224 | I finished it pretty quick -- more than a week before the end of February -- and when I was done I was pretty meh on the whole thing. I came back a few days before it was due and listened again and lo, it was a pretty good record. The songs were all pretty decent, my voice was in fine form, and it's...you know, it's got a vibe. | LINK | |
The Chameleon Collective | Colour Shift | Too many to count | LINK | |
The Combovers | LIVE at the Star-Lite Lounge | One hot moment was when Teddy Connecticut stopped the show to put Jacko on the band's tab. That's what professionals do. That's The Combovers way. | LINK | |
the cosmic light | music to pump iron to | The whole thing reconnecting my fingers to a piano again. | LINK | |
The Cropdusters | The Cropdusters: RPM 2024 | I thinking singing the vocals was tonnes of fun. A lot of it is just blobs of text on my phone until I scream it over the instrumental | LINK | |
The Elysium | Ineffable | We found out one week before the deadline that we'd recorded our entire album through the speaker of the computer, and didn't have the actual microphones turned on. This definitely set our hopes low and we almost gave up, but we perservered and ended up with an album we're both very happy with! | LINK | |
The Estuary | The Red EP | Every second. Happy to be anywhere. | LINK | |
The Handsanitigers | Omicronopolis | My daughter singing into the microphone about her best friend and worries about school was a moment I realized my daughter was packing some real thought and emotion into what she was creating. It was a really raw, memorable moment during the recording. | LINK | |
The Hawefultones | The Brightest Turd in the Punch Bowl | Connecting with my friend RazorBunz and having him on the album. | LINK | |
The Interposed | Really playing music | Getting rad pedal steel guitar at the 17th hour! | LINK | |
The Jet-Black Project | Juicy! | Surely you jest! | LINK | |
The Loos | see it say it sorted | Writing all of the songs on the train. | LINK | |
The Martin Gachiri Experience | WASTED | Creating the beat for "Dark" | LINK | |
The MIDI Machine | Five Pins | Uploading and having a final listen before submitting. | LINK | |
The Natural Casings | Brofu | BBQ'd Meats | LINK | |
The New Sound of Silence | All Ascensions Available! | Tunes getting stuck in my head | LINK | |
The Ram Has Touched The Wall | In The Arms Of Death | Nothing really clicked until the moment I uploaded the work onto BandCamp. I've never fancied myself an artist or a musician but having a tangible site to access music that I composed, recorded and mixed and published pretty much dispels any last vestiges of imposter syndrome. So I'd call being able to consider myself a real artists now as pretty memorable. | LINK | |
the Robinovitches | great mimes ride a bike | While adding different instruments to the track "resting guitar face", i realized that it all of a sudden sounded like a grumpy eastern european waltz. | LINK | |
The Ruining Bit | The Ruining Bit | Coming up with the song ideas. Titles came first. | LINK | |
The Spinal Chord Stim Lab | Near the Corner of Grand Ave | This was our first attempt at the RPM and it didn't go great. We attempted a whole album but fell far short. It is always great to collaborate with friends. It was great when they got to hear the final song | LINK | |
The Synthetic Forest | Connecting The Dots | I did it live on twitch and I have made many many friends! | LINK | |
The Turkeys | The Turkeys | Hearing Cody's son cover our first song and write a song of his own! | LINK | |
The Tyrant Love | RPM 2024 | Overall lack of tech issues was nice | LINK | |
The Velvet Tomato Experiment | Paperman | The moment I heard the vocal harmonies come together, we knew we had something special on our hands. | LINK | |
The Wizards of Vomit | Elephant Time | At some point I was trying to work on 7 songs at the same time: I started making up some raw ideas on the acoustic guitar, then for would record drums for all songs, then bass for all, etc. Halfway I forgot what my plans even where for most songs, and all of them started sounding quite glitchy. In the end it kinda came together, but maybe there is something like trying to be too efficient. | LINK | |
thetworegs | west | It just flowed like nothing before | LINK | |
This is Terrible | MUSIC TO THE MAX | DJ KHALED | LINK | |
This is Terrible | Podcast Classics | we have 2 guests, the first guest is Dr Gregory Shiraz | LINK | |

Thorsten Nesch | Woe the vanquished | There sure was, somewhere in this world ... | LINK | |
Tim Hazelton | Teenager | I recorded percussion for the first time! | LINK | |
tinker | Handyman | I liked the call & response guitar melodies that the song fell out from. | LINK | |
Tiny Keys | Return Of Tiny Keys | Sampling Dolly Parton from Steel Magnolias VHS tape | LINK | |
TotoRobyn | journeys versus destinations | I feel this album pushed me towards darker music in a good way. It feels nice to get our of my comfort zone of light ambient vibes and push musical boundaries. | LINK | |
Town Counsel | Raise Me Up | Every time someone added their parts, the song grew new life. | LINK | |
Travis Hatcher | Fever Dream | When I started to get multiple instruments laid down and I heard the songs with more than just an acoustic guitar, that feeling never gets old when you hear the sketch of a song and know you're either going to love it or hate it when it's done. | LINK | |
Trent Radio - Various | Noises by Nogo | All of it | LINK | |
Trouble with Normal | Desert Road | Play together again | LINK | |
TwentiethSentry | Rocket-Propelled Music | refining my ability to look past mistakes | LINK | |
Two Hippopotamus | Two Hippopotamus | When it suddenly became a rap tune. When the zoologist showed up. When the children started shouting along! | LINK | |
Tyler & Steinmetz | Lost & Found | Tyler masterfully freestyling his lyrics and melodies, priceless! | LINK | |
Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena | Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena | All of them | LINK | |
Unthank | Rough Play Machines | The genesis of the idea for making it was on my birthday (31 January). My kids gave me the Pocket Operator I used for all the drums on it and that gave me the idea for what the record would be. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected gift and using it all month was a joy as a result. | LINK | |
Van Gauche | Journey EP | Mixing Nathan Wiley's stems. | LINK | |
Vanishing Point | Vanishing Point | Bringing moments in life to song | LINK | |

Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys | BETWEEN BREATHS | 19 years with RPM have shaped a journey of music and milestones! Walter and I connected during the first challenge, making February a beacon of creativity and introspection. This month commemorates pivotal events—our daughter Wednesday's birth, life transitions, and a myriad of shared experiences. Despite the ebb and flow, we've faithfully released an RPM album each February. 'BETWEEN BREATHS,' our 19th RPM Challenge offering, is a heartfelt homage to the years of RPM challenges and the myriad inspirations they've brought us. It celebrates the people, places, and moments that define us. RPM has given us a precious space to create, reminding us that, against any obstacle, our passion for music perseveres. | LINK | |

White Air | Equanimity | RPM always inspires me to listen to music as much as record it. That's the best part. | LINK | |
Wild Branch | At The Edge of My Understanding | Not really this year. I just wanted to make something so I didn't miss out on participating. Fingers crossed I have energy enough to do more next year. | LINK | |
Wilfried Hanrath | My RPM Challenge 2024 | Due to health issues I thought I could not do much...but was pleased when I saw how things sum up | LINK | |

Wilsun | It's My Life | Singing without abandon I couldn't embarrass myself further, having written these questionable lyrics. | LINK | |
Wolfgang Merx | Time Stands Still | The moment of completion was the best, knowing that the record is finally done. | LINK | |
WreckAsketch | C.S.L. and the Unwavering | The memorable moment was in the process of making "You will know him by his Signal". I was messing around with jamming over the first section, just hitting record and playing along. During one recording take the song stopped, but I just kept playing. The synth solo that comes through in the 2nd section was that take. A synth solo where I just went for it. It was cathartic. | LINK | |
X5s | Beatcoin | Leaving an open mic and just letting the lyrics show up organically while I worked. | LINK | |
Xelocs | Clouds Passing In Two Directions | Mixing on the 4 track, had a blast | LINK | |
