What if...
Wednesday, 29 October 2008

Right now, if I could only make one more CD, what would be on that last CD?  A tribute to all the bands that I liked over the years.  Maybe my all time favorite songs.  Maybe all those songs that were on the radio that I KNOW I could do better.  Maybe something socially responcible and timely.  Maybe something that just fun to listen to...or jazzy smooth...or dirty south bluesy.   Maybe a theme CD about the people I 've met on the challenge.  I have a thought, but I'm curious what someone else would do.

What would you create if the next time is the last time?

I've always wanted to record something that sounds edgy, dirty but ethereal. Yeah.
 2 Maybe I would . . .

be very serious and sing songs about the meaning, or lack of meaning, of life. Or maybe I would be silly and try to make everyone laugh. Or maybe I'd put out my best overall CD knowing that it would be my last one. Maybe all three.
I can say one thing for certain - I would be sad when that CD was finished.

there's that smoove jazz thing rearing it's ugly head again :)

I approach every album like it will be my last, 'cuz I have to sqeeze every drop of creativity I've got in me just to get it done. it's not a very deep well, I'm afraid.

I started to get all deep about this, and then I realized only one of two things could happen here.

1. I would say screw it and just make a mix CD of my favorite bands' songs. Their recordings, not mine. Then you would know what I was really trying to accomplish for all these years. (and how short of the mark I had fallen)

2. I would record whatever was floating through my head at the time. It would be an uneven event, some good stuff, some medicore, a flash of brilliance here, a complete, unadulterated dry, white dog turd there. In other words, it would turn out like all the other albums I have ever recorded.

 5 Unfinished Masterworks

I would start the project but it would ever be finished. I couldn't finish an album if I new it were my last. I was have to leave it "infinished" so that I could leave hope that I continue work on it/music in the future.

Don't fear the jazz...it can't hurt you.
