IT"S MAY FOR GOD"S SAKE!! OFFSET NEEDLE RADIUS NEWS
Monday, 05 May 2008

I can't believe people are still tuning in to this site in May!  I mean god damn!  THIS SITE EXISTS FOR AN EVENT THAT HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR IN FEBRUARY!!!  WTF?  You know that brown christmas tree sitting in the corner of your living room?  Yeah, NEWS FLASH, time to kick it to the curb my friends.

I played my first solo show ever in my life last night at River Run Bookstore in downtown Portsmouth, NH under the name OFFSET NEEDLE RADIUS.  It was the final show in a series showcasing RPM Challenge 2008 participants.  I was assisted on two songs by Wire Magazine's Chris Greiner on percussion.  He was more  than willing to help out playing the five gallon water jug, ride cymbal, and  glass bottle.  It was f'n great!  I was a wreck until about 4 days before and then I reeled it in and summoned the energy of some of my heros of music and performance.  I played before Tower Of Silence which is Nate which was wicked cool, mixing crystal glass ringing with Guy Capecellatro III readings on a lap top with amazing results.

OFFSET NEEDLE RADIUS can now be found on MYSPACE.  Sure it sounds hypricritical to say I hate MYSPACE for it's target marketing, meat market vibe, superficial relationship replacements, cliquiness, popularity contest, hipster in-crowd facade, and yet take part in its existance.  It remains for better or worse, the DIY marketing and networking resource of choice.  Booking agents, venues, other bands and performers, are all on MYSPACE looking for music that fits what they're trying to do and trying to make connections.  Find OFFSET NEEDLE RADIUS at: www.myspace.com/offsetneedleradius

I have recently found a bass amp in the garbage on the street, bought a 1980 Peavey T 40 bass,  Yamaha  alto recorder, bamboo recorder, all of  which I still need to learn how to play.  I am still waiting to replace this computer which since the RPM Challenge '08 has been relegated to a web browser.  Take care and get on with SPRING@#@@!!!!

1 Ok, shall I say it?

It's probably not a good idea to start a blog by insulting everybody likely to read it.

Um, yeah, Zero, what Colin said.

But see, you answered your own question, giving us some of your own personal music news. This is the kind of things we're hoping to see (minus the nasty remarks).

So switch to decaf already, but thanks for the update.

Have a nice day.

Oh. I thought it was still February.

Thank you for enlightening me.

I guess that means I can give up on the winter coat, and stop celebrating Groundhogs Day.
 4 LIGHTEN UP! IT"S SPRING!

Oh boy, you sensative flowers! Please lets not take ourselves so gaddamn seriously! Do you fine readers not see the humor in the fact that we keep revisiting February over and over?!! This may be my final log-in. It seriously takes me 5 times to remember exactly how my user name and password are listed.

I have been thinking wouldn't it be nice if a free web music profile format existed like MySpace, but created by and for the people more like Craigslist? I suck at computers, so don't look at me. But aren't there any programmer whizzes out there that could tackle such an idea?

The thing is, just how many non-RPM'ers do you think ever stumble upon this microcosm we occupy here at the RPM site? This tiny world is so insular. I'd like to see people's music and ideas reach out further than the mutterings amongst ourselves. The idea that so many people are making and recording their own music could be revolutionary. If it generated enough momentum and attention, it could change modern music and most significantly, the stale "Industry" around it! By freeing ourselves from the constraints of what is popular, accepted, marketed, and focused more on being true to our own music, we could return to really GOOD music untethered by the Corporates! Sure nobody's making any real money down here. But if that was our motivation, we would have all slit our own throats years ago...

It will only be a matter of time before the people take the ear buds out of their ear holes, and realize the REAL exciting sounds are being made by regular people all around, locally, happening in book stores and cafes and basements. I Tunes is NOT where it's at! Most of that crap is inherently boring, it's almost a prerequisite for being included in Corporate Music Marketing. The people who work for Music Publishing corporations are embarrassingly out of touch. Yet they decide what most humans choose to listen to, to PAY for the privilege!

So I hope to read about some of these sound creators on the outside, in May, June, July, etc. Meanwhile, until the snow is on the ground once again, adieu...
5 What are you talking about?

"a free web music profile format existed..."

What do you mean? Like Fuzz? Like Virb? Like Looperman? There are tons of communities for you to have a music profile on. For free. Oh, this site has that too. Feel free to use it. Oh, wait, you are using it. What's your point?

"just how many non-RPM'ers do you think ever stumble upon this microcosm..."

Probably not many. Maybe if you treated your "free web music profile format" here on RPM like something you should maintain and keep active, more people would visit it? And are you saying that people who took part in RPM shouldn't use the RPM forum to talk to each other after the fact?

This tiny world is so insular. I'd like to see people's music and ideas reach out further than the mutterings amongst ourselves.

Do you really mean "insular" or do you mean "isolated"? Because if it is truly the former, that's really insulting, and is the complete antithesis of the RPM Challenge. If these people were really so insular, they wouldn't even take part.

And are you actually assuming that because people are still posting on RPM, that means they're NOT doing something outside of the site? That's pretty ignorant.

(shrugs) This is just one spot I am. I'm also in many other places.

I actually keep coming back here for the Jukebox to be honest.

And to see what the other RPMers are up to.

Nothing wrong with that..
