now you know the probs I had at our song unveilings - they never sounded like they did in my head. I was particularly envious when you found the guitar sounds on your (then new) uber-keyboard!

Keep at it - it's a great head clearer!

My keyboard can't strum...and neither can I.

young jedi, you must move beyond the keyboard and buy ever more impractical instruments to try and learn... the moment I get paid, I'm having the mandolin... it will be mine...

until then, I'm teaching the littlun the kazoo - comedy gold!

I see you shortly falling in love with your guitar and wanting to sleep with it next to you on the pillow. ;P Well, maybe not sleep with it, but you might give it a little smooch or two, now and again. I have given all four of my guitars names, and I love each of them, dearly, even though I'm not that much of a guitarist, these days. It's good for you, all around, to try new instruments. I want to try banjo, next!! Much luck to you on your guitar learnin's! (^-^)

:-) There isn't enough room in the bed for another co-sleeping thing. Hmm, I guess we could always get a bigger bed. ...

Getting it to sound like it does in your head is genius level playing. More usual is "i was trying for this sound and this happened by accident". People are often surprised that I don't play many of my songs in the local pubs, but I don't know what I did when I recorded it LOL

Clearly there's something wrong with your head. Can't be the guitar-playing.

Don't worry about it not sounding like it does in your head. I have a bunch of sounds in my head I have never heard an instrument produce so far (yeah, tis a scary place in there).

Lots and lots of happy accidents happen on the way to trying to get "that sound". Some people ignore them and continue to try to get "that sound", others take what they found and run with it. Do what you can do with the ability and equipment you have for now and enjoy the journey.

I understand fully though; nothing on my RPM 08 disk sounded like I thought it was going to.

What you come up with musically is usually the result of a long collaboration between what you want to hear in your head and what you're actually able to come up with physically, "in the real world," so to speak. A "compromise" between what you want to hear in your head and what you can do is probably a better description, but either way, you get the point. Lots of interesting-sounding stuff to use (I thought, anyway) have come up along the way of trying to get the "sound in my head" out, but went another way instead to get something. Part of the process, is all.

Nothing compares to the trauma of hearing my singing recorded for the first time...took me about a month to adjust to that post traumatic stress...

And thank God I don't have to rely on what I hear in my head...I promise you, none of you would want to hear those results....

 15 New technology

I am working on an adaptor that plugs directly into the head. It will record exactly what you hear, transfer it to an editable .WAV file in 24bit audio. The first few prototypes were a little painful to insert, but ever since I increased the size of the hole in my cranium, it fits fine. Now I just have to figure out how to get to the part of the brain where the music is...More to come...

Cheers,

I'm pretty certain that no one wants to hear the stuff that goes on in my head ;-)
