Too many awesome things to choose from, so the odds are against us all, really.

However, if you want a better chance of being on Second Stage, I suggest sending them your disk separate from RPM... they have a form on their site that you download, fill out, and include with your disk. That seems like a better route.

I can't even get nominated for the RPM 08 compilation disks -- NPR hasn't even been in the back of my mind.

Yes, there is that little thought in the back of my mind, "it could happen." No, that's not what I did it for. "Yeah, but wouldn't it be cool?" But all the artists picked are great. I'm happy for these guys. "Come on, you want it, don't you? It mildly pisses you off that you've been overlooked." Stop it! They aren't going to feature me and that's fine. Fine, I tell you, fine! "There's still time, you know. Could happen." Shut up SHUT UP SHUT UP!

What the hell is wrong with me?
 4 Well, not us, either.

I think I nominated you. Somewhere. At least I meant to. Might not be where you expected to be nominated...

Anyways, getting selected for the NPR spotlight is really a double-edged sword. Yes, it's a great hono(u)r. Yes, I think my stuff is up to it. Problem is, I've heard a load of stuff, I could name at least 20 artists, that do at least equally good, and oftentimes way better stuff than I do. And almost none of them have been featured.

I think we gotta keep in mind that this is not the grand prize. This is one guys whimsical opinion after speed-listening through 800 rpm-entries. I'm not dissing Robin, he's got a terribly difficult job making the rpm project as a whole be somewhat honestly represented on his show, and I happen to think that he's doing a decent job of it. In fact, he's making us all look better by doing the series. It's effing great promotion! For the rpm phenomenon. Being in the spotlight is very much secondary to that.

But that is of course real easy for me to blurt out, having already been featured... Still, it's my honest opinion, whatever that's worth.

Holding your breath and wishing for it won't make it happen. Only those with talent AND luck get recognition that way. The rest of us talented-yet-unlucky slobs either have to pimp ourselves to the point of being insufferably annoying or be content to stay in our safe little pockets of obscurity. Me, I'm a self-styled recluse. I kinda like my warm little pocket of obscurity. ;P

I'm with you! I've had a lot of encouraging emails over the last few months that I can cling to, but there are just too many incredibly cool bands on this site to get a look-in now.

Anyway, I'm sure I saw a nomination for you! :-)

The npr thing is great (kudos to those chosen) and it's nice to get the word out about the RPMC. But don't let this become a gd competition, that's not what this whole thing is about! Your all talented and your all winners.

Personally I wish npr would exercise some eclecticism and feature some more diverse artists. There are tons of fascinating instrumental music here of all kinds that hasn't been touched. But Robin whatshisname is the decider, and he must prefer words with his music. So be it. Just goes to show it is one person's subjective exercise, which we all do when it comes to music or art.

Yea, I guess I hadn't visited the blues/jazz thread in a few days. Not sure if any of my tunes are "competitive" enough to make it on a compilation CD this time around, but that's my fault for being a little lazy this past February. I just wasn't as "fired" up about recording as I was in 2007. Pretty strange when you consider that I looked forward to it all year (LOL!).

... and I used the word "competitive" right after Kavin's mini-rant! Oh well, my usage of the word "competitve" is actually a positive connotation.

with 10 replies, uh, make that 11. I personally think one of Micks tracks should be on NPR. He did some amazing stuff this year.

Come on, to be heard on THE RADIO, isn't that what we all really want!

I'm lucky to have been nominated once for the compilation. I'm content with that.

I doubt I'd get on NPR, but I suppose stranger things have happened..
