Rock n' roll and Americana musicians unite!
Tuesday, 22 April 2008

The beauty of the RPM challenge is that there are so many diverse musicians playing so many different, stimulating different kinds of music. Everything is represented, from folk, pop, and rock to techno, rap, and other sample based music.

Personally, I love and respect it all. The more a listener allows themselves to enjoy the more varied their personality becomes and the bigger musical arsenal they build. However, I am natuarlly inclined to more organic sounds, from old folk, country, and blues to rock n' roll like Chuck Berry, the Beatles, and Pink Floyd (especially their early years). Dylan is perennial. New rock is good too, especially bands like Wilco.

I'm really interested in hearing other people who have a similar musical outlook/sound. Gimme a hollar so I can discover some great new music.

Lastly, my album - Bluegrass - contains what I believe to be some of my definitive statements lyrically, some of my best songwriting, and is all around more varied than anything I've ever done. Lemme know if ya dig it.

Peace,

Erik

MPD runs rampant among RPMers. We can't seem to play just one kind of music. I have Rap, Electronic, Hard Edge Techno, Guitar Rock on the Same CD. Baby's First Ride suffers from MPD. I'll check out your sound later tonight.

you would like my bandmates solo effort 'Sometimes' very Dylan with shades of Neil Young thrown in. Our effort 'Geezer' folk/country/60s who knows what else.

Hi Erik

I liked your Firelight track - that rocks out - \"the end of everything\" and Bad Blue Eyes are cool too. Got them in a playlist now.

Nice, driving acoustic songs, reminiscent of "old" folk, Woody Guthrie style. Excuse me, but isn't Wreck of the Old '97 a Johnny Cash tune?

that's so cool to get the history behind that song! i have vernon dalhardt's original 1920s version, woody guthrie's, and cash's. i love them all, the song is a classic.

the first version mentioned was the first million selling country song. i figured that doing a version of the first genuine country song would be a good way to introduce my rootsy aesthetic. it's only one of the many interesting little features of the album.

I particularly like your "Bluegrass". Non-rhyming songs can be hit or miss but I think you nailed that one. I love it!

Given your style of music, you might enjoy some of our stuff: Jacuzzi Berkley in the jukebox or on Virb at http://www.virb.com/jacuzziberkley
