The internet has broken in half!

My provider, Telia, one of Europe's main network operators, is apparently in a serious fight over peering with Cogent, one of North America's largest network operators.

This has world-wide implications, as it's basically shut a lot of domains, the count is in the thousands, on opposite sides of the Atlantic completely out of contact with each other. I didn't think that was even possible, that the internet was basically designed to handle just this type of thing, by routing around the problem. But apparently not!

There's a pretty informative blog entry about the situation on this page.

Drats! For this reason I can't download and enjoy Hussalonia's RPM'08-album. That's serious damage! Now I'm wondering who I should sue...

I have heard of some serious issues between internet providers, cable companies, and other technology companies on the American side of the pond, so I'm not suprised to learn that Cogent has an issue with someone.
When will the companies learn that these kinds of spats benefit no one? When you shut customers out of service, they go elsewhere. Oh well, bankruptcy is always an option.
BTW - suing doesn't help. The American philosophy of companies being sued is to delay and deny and hope you die. That way a single case can help a lawyer bill enough hours to put his or her kids through college. LOL
Sorry you're having so much trouble.

Blaming Americans for all bad things happening in the world has gotten pretty old.

This is two major international companies acting like children in a sandbox, with millions of people and thousands of organisations and commercial enterprises being caught in the middle. It's a completely ridiculous situation. But nonetheless grave, and a not just a little bit worrying. If corporate stubbornnes, or whatever the hell this is, can cause something like this, then maybe we need to re-think some pf the fundamentals about how worldwide connectivity is supposed to be designed and operated.
