Put Yourself on the Map!
Sunday, 07 January 2007

To put yourself on the map, you just need a latitude and longitude, which is easier than it sounds.

If you're in the U.S, go to geocoder.us and enter your address; for other places around the world, go to www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm and use the map tool there to zoom in on your location. Either of these will generate a set of precise latitude and longitude coordinates. We want the coordinates that are in basic numerical format, such as 42.823472 and  -70.655226.

Now go to your profile page by clicking "Your Details." Go to "Edit>Update Your Profile>Location," enter in your latitude and longitude and hit the "Update" button.

Note: do NOT use any characters other than numbers, decimal points, and minus signs... no degree marks or minute marks or anything, just basic decimals please (as above) since the program is finicky and other characters can cause problems with display.

Now you're on the map! It may take a minute for you to appear, and make sure you refresh the map page and reload the map.
