Nothing makes any sense
Tuesday, 26 February 2008

Wrote another song this afternoon, again with baby-appendage.  She was feeling sleepy, so I sang softly (as usual).  Have decided to scrap two of my finished songs and try to write another tonight, as the others just don't fit with the rest of the stuff.  But that means using just the synth, as I've run out of guitar samples from my lovely friends...so it could all be even more odd.  Oh why am I posting this absolute rubbish?

Two things are worrying me:

(1) Everyone else seems to be finishing today.

(2) People seem to be dropping out because they don't feel as though their product is "good enough".  Oh horror!  This means I should drop out too, but I'm much happier with this year's effort than last year's...

Yes, I am a total fraud amongst the likes of RF Berks and Gumbo Stu, who can actually write and perform quality stuff on their own...but this is fun, right?

Are we having fun yet?

Self-doubt.  Self-doubt.

Just finish and be done with it.

Thank you for reading this far!

I feel your pain! I've thought..why not scrap it...there's always next year..etc..but I'm gonna keep sluggin' Who knows what's still yet to come out! Got lots to do this week..can it happen? We will certainly see. My one vow today: Try. and if I don't make it, no beating myself up.

Bless your heart! Kisses to that sweet baby (i'm assuming she's sweet...lol) : )

Defintely do not worry, I'm still working on two or three more songs that are just refusing to completely comply with getting their acts together. I'm still thinking they'll get done though. Not panicking yet. As far as quality product, I long ago stopped worrying about that. There's two songs at least that need drums and bass, I had a drummer and bassist last month who were committed to helping, but now the drummer quit (job, school, etc. got in the way) and the bassist just dosen't seem interested in getting the bass done for me this month (despite him saying he would last month, and understanding the whole album-in-a-month concept). Just for two songs too...arghh..trying not to be bitter. I need to learn drums and bass so I don't have to worry about stuff like this. Just get what you can get done now, send it in, and tweak in March. That's my theory. I think this year I'm going to actually properly finish the album too, it actually might be worth it, so hopefully I'll get that drum and bass on there in March. Thankfully, I prepared for the possibility that there would be a shortage of people being able to do stuff and planned the majority of the album around stuff I had/could do (play guitar and (kind-of) sing). And it's all recorded lo-fi anyway, so there goes any sonic masterpiece.

So to recap...lots of fun...yes, I'm definitely having fun now.

I kind of like the idea of an entire album sung softly...

You owe it to the talent you have to put things out there. This competition is with yourself; it\'s an opportunity to see if you can do it. Comparing yourself to others is good if you use the comparison as a benchmark to achieve. When you use comparisons as a reason to quit then you\'ve gone too far.

I\'m not as good as the artists I like here or in general. I still put out songs though, because 1) I like doing it, 2) I keep improving (with every song, but overall) and 3) The artists I really like and respect have heard my music and liked it.

You\'re your own worst critic.

Can\'t wait to hear your new album.

Cheers,

Don't you dare quit. I want that album.

It's just a wall. Kick it and get on with the job. Kick it again if necessary.

Rule One of having fans: If you delete your worst song, someone will ask you why you deleted their favourite song of yours. True.

Kick it again. I'm making you a JuJu sandwich.
