Yes, they do. Hard and dry. I've even tried recording in the downstairs toilet for a more full and reverby sound, and they still sound like a load of old tulip.
I'm not really sure what to do about this, but I'm a perfectionist and I really can't allow my stuff to go out with vocals as bad as I've got so far. My next plan is to start back again in my bedroom and do it line by line, as many times as it takes, to get something both in tune and emotive (tune and emotion seem to be an elusive mix - I seem to be able to get one or the other, but not both). I've also got a very low voice with a very limited vocal range (almost Andrew Eldritch like, but not as good) and I'm going to attempt singing an octave higher so that the voice fits the music better. So this week and next I'm going to be spending time doing voice exercises and trying to coax my 36 year old smokers voicebox to loosen up.
All this means that I'm going to have to finish the writing and instrument parts a lot sooner that I expected to allow much more time for vocal recording.
I *AM* going to produce a record I'm proud of, I'm determined...
