I've been having stomach issues today. They were bad enough for me to take
my last two work day hours as sick leave. I'm feeling a burning sensation crawl
up my esophagus and into my throat. I hope this doesn't turn into anything
worse.
Anyway, I took a two hour nap, cleaned house a bit, then finished my second
song for the RPM challenge CD I'm working on. I actually started on the lyrics
aback in October, and faked a bit of melody at the time for my vocal coach, who
is a also a pro songwriter, and seemed to like it enough for us to work on it.
Anyway, I finally finished it in earnest. It took me three days and some aching
fingers, but here it is:
The song is called Requiem for My Singlehood. It's a topic people come up
with in the throes of a midlife crisis, and I just wanted to have fun with it.
Once again, in keeping with my promise to the challenge, the backing tracks were
composed on a Dell Axim PDA using Griff Software, and everything was recorded
(and, er, mixed) on my Zoom H4 Handy Recorder. It's becoming apparent to me
that, as much as I like keeping things compact, the limitations of the mixing
capabilities on the H4 may force me to remix all of my tracks on my PC. I may
also get rid of the guitar in the first verse. I had a hard time trying to work
out the chords to mesh with the backing tracks (as you all could tell, I wrote
the thing on the PDA, not the guitar - d'oh!)
