When I entered this challenge, I somehow subconsciously thought that once I commit to this, come Feb. 1st, all the creative juices will start flowing.
Boy, was I wrong. Yesterday was hell. The harder I tried, it seemed the more paralyzed I became. Then despair creeps in, and you start having negative thoughts, and guilt, and you really feel the pressure. "Damnation, I'm losing a whole Saturday here!"
I ended up finishing a whole bottle of wine, but instead of conjuring up some inspiration, I just got sleepy. So I went to bed, feeling the weight of total failure upon my shoulders.
* * *
Well, this morning I got up extra early. I made me some coffee, gritted my teeth and sat down once again in front of that blank sheet. I hate blank sheets.
It's now 2.30 PM here. I have in front of me two pieces of lyrics. I prevailed, I guess. But it feels more like a victory of dumb stubbornness than anything else, like being hit by the muse.
They both tell the tale of one particular moment in time, kind of like a painting as opposed to a cartoon, I guess. The first one, "Would That I Could", is a recognition that triggers memories of a lost love. The second one is called "Do What You Wanna Do", and tries to illustrate the breathless moment between his proposal and her reply. And without further ado, here they are:
Would That I Could
1. That old crabapple tree Seems familiar to me Been so long since I lost my way I stand frozen in time As the memories unwind To a place where I long to stay
If I could change the world If I could just say the words Would that I Could Would if I Could
2. For a while you and I Were the storm's inner eye Growing stronger with every turn Taken in by the twirl I was lost in the swirl Had no questions and no concern
If I could change the world If I could just say the words Would that I Could Would if I Could
Bridge: These years of random wandering All the places I have been They never quelled my heart's desire To be with you again
3. For redemption and grace For my unholy ways I would lay my whole life to bare Be admitted once more To the place I adore Would I suffer to say a prayer
If I could change the world If I could just say the words Would that I Could Would if I Could
Do What You Wanna Do
1. In the garden, in the night dew Sits a precious butterfly Do what you wanna do Do what you wanna do
If its wings could carry virtue For a passage I would vie Do what you wanna do Do what you wanna do
I could wait until tomorrow I could wait another year Through the joy and through the sorrow By the hope and by the fear
Heed the voice that calls within you Know my love will never die And I will wait until you do what you wanna do
2. There are angels all around you There’s a glimmer in your eye Do what you wanna do Do what you wanna do
Like a blessing to reach into For my soul to purify Do what you wanna do Do what you wanna do
I could wait until tomorrow I could wait another year Through the joy and through the sorrow By the hope and by the fear
Heed the voice that calls within you Know my love will never die And I will wait until you do what you wanna do

I'll try to get some rough demos up later, right now I'm not geared up for that.
Bless you all, S. Dude
