Another funny thing
Friday, 13 April 2007

I've noticed that a lot of folks from this website have migrated/discovered other sites like MySpace and Virb.com, and we've all been able to link up as friends, and that's very cool.  I stop by and listen to people's work from time to time, and I like that very much.

I've visited other sites that I've discovered, like Fuzz.com, and SoundClick.com, Broadjam.com, and noticed that there are a lot of glossy-looking band profiles, and a lot of musicians very serious about making it in the music industry, but without the record companies help.  I am hesitant to put my stuff up there for one reason:  I'm not that kind of glossy musician.  While I take great pride in making my songs sound just like I want them, and I give some real honesty to my lyrics, I don't have the high production values that the other bands do.  I don't think I'll be received as well by the listeners as the other bands are.

Has anyone had any success on sites like SoundClick and Broadjam?  Has anyone been able to use RPM as a kind of springboard to success?  And, does anything think I should try to sell my work on a site like that?

Like many creative people, I am insecure.  While I don't make it my mission in life to seek everyone's approval, like some, I don't handle failure well.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

ER

I like soundclick, and have been surprised at how many hits my music page has gotten since I put it up about 6 months ago (with no promotion either). It seems the community is made up mostly of musicians, many of whom seem friendly and supportive.

Trying to sell songs or make money on Soundclick doesn’t seem very realistic from what I've seen, that seems to be supported by the comments on their message boards too. It’s more useful as a site to host your music, exposing it to other musicians, and letting the Soundclick community get to know you and your music better.

It's also fun to build up your site, write blurbs on each song, and just creating your own little music footprint on the web. I’d say you should give soundclick a try, I’d bet your music will get a very positive response there.

haven't chekc sounclick, yet..

like you I dont' care about being the glossy or being in the covers of magazines and stuff like that

all I care is to be able to making as a musician....which really hard..
and because I have to justify the $30k I spend in music school
I love music....I wish all my income will come from that, and not the 25% or 30%
 3 Thanks, friends.

From my experience it doesn't really matter how good your music sounds production-wise or even musicially, someone is going to like it.
music.download.com is a good place to host. It's owned by CNet so they do a good job of advertisig thier server to listeners. I've had a good deal of success in terms of networking and getting new listeners w/ very little promotion on my own part.
I really don't like soundlcick much, or any other sites that require listener registration just to download free music.
