I thought I'd be OK with the raw mixes that I sent to RPM for the challenge. Then I thought I'd be OK with first generation mixes I did a few days later. While they were better, they weren't what I wanted. The mixes were still rough. Interestingly enough, I have Sony 7506 Headphone, which I've had for years. Once mixed, I listen to the mix on a $30 multimedia speakers by Altec Lansing. They're 2 satellites speakers with a 6.5 subwofer. I call them the magic bullets. These cheap little speakers, which sound surprisingly good, will poke holes in my mixes almost every time. If the mids arent right, these jokers will highlight it...in red.
I never underestimate the value of low tech. While I have a much more balance mix now, I not happy with the quality loss when I went from 24bit to 16bit. I probably should have mixed down the 24bit output direct to tape. I like the tape warmth. But I have deleted all the mixes so I can get on with my life. I have a site planned to launch in time for the party to showcase the full CD and the new mixes. Views: 2603
