The RPM Challenge

last night

as i lay nearly sleeping, i wrote this incredible song in my head, and i said, you'd better write that shit down, cause you'll forget it, and guess what, i did. so today on the way home from work, another song in my head, and i make sure and repeat it, over and over in my head until i could get home and record a bit of it. am i the only person that has such compulsions? seriously, this stuff in my head makes it ache sometimes.

I know exactly what you mean. I have little pieces of paper all over the house with ideas jotted down on them. I find as well that if I get one of those moments of musical epiphanies, if it is not written down right away, it could very well be lost forever!

get out of bed right away and record it, no matter what it is. i write dreams down, forget them, and wake up to a story that i myself wrote only hours before. i had a melody, sung it into the computer, and did the same.

dont lose ANYTHING! call your cell phone and leave a message from work, sing into a tape player if there is one lying around. whatever you need to do.

I carry a dictation recorder in my car to capture ideas - musical or otherwise - when I come up with them. I almost hate to think of how many good ideas I've had and promptly forgotten. Ah, who am I kidding. It's only like 7 probably. ; )
