6 Months To Go

Soon babies, soon. It's almost August 1st...

Six months from now we will be ticking away the final minutes, or at least, I hope we will be ticking away the final minutes before RPM '09 begins.

Some predictions about 6 months from now:

1. Mick will have a new boarder status created just for him. In honor of his bazillion posts, the status will be "Mick Boarder".

2. ACL and Joshua Wentz will form a new group. The name of the new act will be Genre-ation X.

3. We will have a new president here in the US. Half the country will be relieved, the other half will be mailing Gumbo to see if he has room in Ireland for all the disaffected.

4. RPM HQ will still take us down to the WIRE (pun intended) as to whether or not there even is an RPM 09.

5. There will be a twist on RPM 09, making it a bit different than previous years.

6. MOSFET will reveal his real name. (It's Eugene)

7. Those of us who have been doing this for a while will start quoting ourselves from previous years since we will be too lazy to type anything any more.

8. Someone will get signed as a result of their RPM album.

9. Other acts will get noticed due to #8. It will then spark a massive debate (borderline feud) over whether it's a good thing or not.

10. Some new, young RPMer will put a post on the bulletin boards complaining about something. Almost immediately, everyone will respond smacking them around a little. I will be lazy and just copy and paste my comments from this year and last saying "...cut him some slack, he doesn't realize what RPM HQ is really there for..."

Let spark the fued now about being a signed act. I think it would be a mistake to let an opportunity slip by without at least having a conversation. Then take what you learned and do it for yourself. I don't trust the suits, not one bit. Having said that, I was a BIG fan of freaky limo party with naked hoochies. WAS as my wife says no to that kind of thing. But I bought into the whole rock and roll thing back in the day, but if I were tempted, I'll have my own lawyer in tow.

It just hard to know who to trust. I've heard of bands that were signed as a write off - basically were signed to a 2 record deal but weren't allowed to finish thier CD or opt out of the contract. So thier work belongs the record company. They can't change bands or labels. This was the 80's in Dallas, but the same dirty mofo's are still running around.

the following:
1) There will be posts about people with writer's block.
2) There will be posts about people who are running out of time.
3) There will be posts about people who are relieved to be finished.
4) There will be posts from people wondering if the RPM folks got their CD.
I also predict I will participate again next year. And I'll find a whole group of artists who's music I love. Again.

Naw. Both ACL & JW would never approve of anything with "Genre" as the front part of the band name.

On the other hand, DeGenre8 might possibly work...

But we'll defer to JW. ;)

1. Savage will prove that she has not learnt to play the guitar this year.
2. Savage will blog a lot.
3. Savage will cough up her usual vocals atop guitar samples from musicians kind enough to throw her their scraps.
4. Savage will run out of said scraps around 25th and blog endlessly about it until someone takes pity on her.
5. Savage's cd will be lost in the post and Mosfet will save the day.
