One of my fondest memories as a kid was watching Bill Bixby say, "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" This was part of the opening sequence to the Incredible Hulk television series. Great stuff! It wouldn't measure up by today standards, but back then it was the stuff of legend. More important, though, was the theme. Specifically, the piano version that played at the end of the show as the main character is walking away. It was the loneliest song I have ever heard. "The Lonely Man" theme was written by Joe Harnell, a piano composer whos' hey-day was in the 70's. In the new Hulk movie, they used this theme in a few places and there I was 10 years old and feeling much the way I felt then...empty. That is the true power of music; when a song sticks with you for 3 decades and call up the same emotion. For me, writing and producing soundtrack music is the pentacle of creation. When you can tell a story with a mood and not lyrics, you've really done something. I remember, even as sad as it was, it was compelling and I had to make sure I watched to the very end of the credits when the theme ended with the low note resonating on the piano.
