I came in here yesterday, remembering there was another song I wanted to include on the record. I'd spent hours tracking it. It still needed final mix and mastering. Plus going back to bring up volumes to something resembling "normal". I was at it 12 to 4:30 when I ran out to pick up CD jackets from the print shop. At 6:15 I realized that I had done all I could do. I really wanted to submit the end product within the month of February. So I grabbed the computer, hopped in the van and began to burn the first CD with the new mastering. I drove quickly but carefully, avoiding frost heves so the computer would burn a CD without problems. I made the 30 minute drive to Portsmouth in about 20. Once there, I parked illegally in an empty lot and ran for what I thought was The Wire HQ. After asking a few people I found it. The time was minutes past 7, which according to this site was the cut off time. Turned out they were there taking submissions until 8. Lucky for me. The project is in. I think it's good, too. The most diverse recording I've ever done. No compramising with band mates.
Congratulations to fellow RPM winners. Better luck next time to those who stalled before the finish line. It's no easy feat, the RPM. Life has a way of throwing snags in the mix, unforseen obsticles to circumvent, or collapse trying. Twice I was sure I wouldn't be able to salvage the music I'd already worked so hard on.
