| Now that I've gotten some sleep (some being an overstatement), I've got some perspective: 1. It might be best to write your songs BEFORE you start the recording process, not during. 2. It would be wise to listen to your CD BEFORE you send it out to be previewed by the heads of the RPM Challenge heads. 3. Don't mix and master using strictly headphones. 4. Don't mix and master using strictly home stereo speakers. 5. Lack of sleep causes poor judgement. A bad mix is not work getting sick over. 6. I learned more about using EQ making my RPM Challenge CD than in the 10+ years I've done home recording. 7. I wanted to participate in the RPM community more, but I didn't want to be tempted to make any promises I couldn't keep. On the other hand, while I take a certain amount of pride in doing everything myself, I'm wondering if I shouldn't have asked for help in the interim, and avail myself for help, despite being knee deep in my own project. 8. The recording process looked simple; believe me, it wasn't. This will be the last time I use my PDA to record an album. It was a nice experiment, but I'm going back to fruity loops and possibly live musicians after this. 9. Not everything has to be loud, does it? 10. Will this community still be around AFTER March 1? And yes, I sent another copy of my CD (this time AFTER I listened to it and made my changes) this afternoon. I'm a little prouder of this one, though one of the songs sounded worse normalized than not, so I left that one with it's current levels as is. Hopefully, the RPM folks won't find the master as cringeworthy as my previously sent CD. Also, I uploaded all the wave files from said CD to Discmakers. Once pay day comes, I'm getting my initial run done. I may even make it available online as a freebie for a limited time, until all my online distribution is in place. Look for some further updates on lessons learned from THAT venture. Hope you all are doing well, finishing up your stuff.
