| So, on Saturday I finished recording all the songs on my CD, then was up til all hours the next two nights mixing it. I cheated and used the Normalization function in the Nero CD Burning software. I sent off the CD to Portsmouth, NH on Monday without bothering to listen to it. After all, it sounded good on my PC, why bother. Well, I read something in the forum about the normalization in the Nero software distorting the songs. Sure enough, I had an extra copy lying around, which I then popped into the stereo's CD player. I friggin' cringed. It wasn't even the matter of the distortion. Everything sounded either too tinny or too bassy. Ugh! My only excuse was that I mixed everything using headphones, as my studio speakers are on the fritz. So, last night I tried again, using the stereo speakers. After more lack of sleep due to tinkering, and about 20 burned CDs later, I think I finally have my difinitive master. I left one of the songs "unnormalized", because it would have sounded so awful loud. It's a ballad anyway. Anyway, I'll go into further detail at some point about what it's like getting wave files off of PDAs (the amount of EQ you need to do is not what you would wish on your worst enemy). But, right now, after two days of staying up late obsessive over the sound of this thing, and to send yet a nicer copy of the CD to the folks in NH, I gotta go hit sack. Have fun, kids! And don't jump the gun, like I did!
