It was the best o' times...
(Sunday, 24 February 2008) Written by The Mountain Weirdo Singers

...well, no, it hain't...but it hain't the worst o' times neither...just feels that way to some of the Weirdos right about now.

Fencepost hain't a-feelin' so hot.  It's been a bad week fer the poor boy.  First he got heckled by some dagblasted varmint kid at the Ladies' Guild Bazaar we done played on Wednesday night, then he went home, had one too many "hard sarsaparillas," tripped a might near the border of his property, fell into his neighbor's livestock pen, and got his hand stepped on by a genuine Peruvian prize alpaca.  He's a-gonna heal up real nice, so the doctor says, but not in time to play fiddle on this here album.  Fortunately Fencepost has multiple talents and interests, and he can still be heard as a backup vocalist and...uh...composer.  He's makin' his debut in that thar capacity on our album.  You'd think that'd give the boy somethin' to smile about, but well, the recordin' o' this here song done been one of the few causes of unrest visited upon us.  Artistic differences...uh, you'll see when the time comes.  I fer one was plenty proud to be part of the recordin' of "Meh."  Didn' understand the thing to save m'soul, but that's 'cause I'm an old feller, an' this I reckon is a young man's song, written by a young man when he was among other young gents at the conservatory in the big city.

Well dang all if I hain't a-been so busy sympathizin' with Fencepost that I done lost all perspective.  The good news is that in spite o' Fencepost's injury, we done made a great deal o' progress these past few days.  In fact, we's only got us a few more items to take care of...

  • record bass on "I Won't Tell You"
  • record "Mountain Weirdo Woman" with our guest artist Delia Jo
  • fine tune a couple o' sound files (optional if'n it comes right down to it; just a "minor bug-fix" here'n thar, as our producer says)
  • burn a CD and send it off!

Here's a-hopin' yer all enjoyin' yerselves tremendously an' bein' blessed with as much productivity as any Weirdo.

Regards,

Arnie "Polecat" McJunkman
