so everyone keeps saying my tracks are quiet, and i could figure it out, so i saw that garageband has a normalizer now which says that it makes the track louder, which i thought, hey that's good, right, well it's not, in fact it makes the tracks quieter. i turned that sucker off and boom, there's my volume back on all these tracks.

also, i've deleted my demo's

also i think i've got one song about done.

also my drums tracks for the last two songs have still not showed up.

that is all.

Is this in GarageBand '08? I'm still using the '06 version that came with my MacBook, which doesn't have a normalizer.

Interesting though... I have hated (and refused to use) the "Sound Check" feature in iTunes for years, because in my experience it seems to work backwards -- it makes stuff that's already quiet even quieter. I just don't get it.

i'm actually using 2 versions of GB, 06 on my emac in the cave to record and 08 in the office to mix, they are backward compatable, but not the other way around, if you know what i mean. it's confusing as hell for sure.

If the normaliser is making your songs quiet, it's because you're recording too hot and you're getting digital clipping. You're better off letting the normaliser do its work and then running the finished article through a compressor (say in Audacity) to properly round the peaks rather than jsut clip them.
