Emotional content
(Friday, 15 February 2008) Written by Babys First Ride

Observation.

I am not a strong vocalist.  I am a mediocre vocalist who has a hard time staying on pitch.  But what I've noticed is that emotional content covers a multitude of sins.  The vocal delivery is paramount even if cannot carry a tune.  I knew this but I didn't know.  There are records that I replay over and over and again and there are ones I listen to once in a great while.  The CD's that reach out of player and grab me by the shirt and the one's that I keep with me.  Alice in Chains, U2, Wyclif Jean, Jet - Shine On.  I heard the difference in my own mixes.  A lack luster delivery will kill this project.  Gotta dig deep and put it on the CD.

i totally agree. a good friend of mine recently told me that a stong emotional delivery is very important and to limit it while practicing, but when recording it let it out in controlled bursts depending on how much you have to record over the evening. if you strain yourself on one song you might not be able to have any more good takes. its like increasing your lung capacity, soul capacity
