At least, technologically speaking, I can’t get away.Rather
than bore anyone with a long story about this horrible chain of disasters and trips
to FedEX and so on and so forth, I’m just going to get right down to it:
One of my true goals in creating my RPM album this year (beyond
the ones I outlined in my previous post, I need restrictions. ) was to get familiar with all my new
gear.My little home studio had long
been in need of an upgrade, so last December I made some major purchase (more
than I can really even afford.)One by
one, everything went wrong, each time for some isolated reason, all along
keeping me partially crippled while I tried
to learn how to use it all.Not a
great situation.And it’s stretched on
into February.I’m truly technologically
cursed.
[plug] Thankfully, I must say, this was all done through Sweetwater. With anyone else this would probably been truly
a nightmare and bank-breaking besides.Their customer and technical service is superb! [/plug]
But yesterday was the last straw. My newest replacement piece of gear fried
itself and my brand new computer upon
install. Now I am really crippled. And in the middle of February!Hello, RPM Challenge!?!?!
Well, I’m not completely crippled.I can find workarounds. But I’m afraid that when you consider my compositional
speed (flowing marshmallow cream), this being the shortest month of the year,
and then the onslaught of setbacks, I’m strongly considering abandoning this
ship to save me a lot of stress.
However, if you’ll continue to indulge the metaphor, I’m
thinking of building a new ship—a boat perhaps, one that I can maybe get to shore in the 20 days we’ve
got left.Either that or I just slop
some crap together and call it my album. But that ain’t gonna do nobody any good.
Stay tuned for my plan B.And I could use your help. That’s
right, you!!So let me know if you might
be interested in helping! It’d be relatively
quick, fun, and easy.
