I haven't listen to the mixes in a while so I gave them a play last week. Oh, the flaws. They seemed more pronounced than when I first recorded the album. There was some new equipment used with some undesirable results...especially when you're learning what each new tool does. New software with more tools than I could locate and less time than 28 days. Did it in 18 days. But all the "glaring omissions" are somewhat comforting. I listen and I see thing that I could have easily done better...had it not been 2 in friggin morning on a work day. But, it still gives me hope. I know how to fix the situation next time.
I will start training in September. Training? Yes! I don't get to play guitar or bass as much as I would like and have had a very busy summer. But I want to limber, if not nimble on the strings come next feb. That means practice. Listening to some of my favorite bands and trying to keep up. It also means listing to my favorite bands and picking apart the albums to trying get that perfect sonic image - full but not bloated. I am going to bring back the Funk in a big way. I letting my afro grow out, I picking up some sherbert colored leisure suits (lime and orange) with the matching hat, white leather boots with the zip ankle, and I'm bidding on a yellow 1978 Mercury Monarch - with an 8 track player UNDER the dash. Of course, I can't show any of this to the bank I work at....
