Building a Nest
(Sunday, 10 June 2007) Written by Babys First Ride

I got so much more out this project than years of aimless wondering I've decided to focus my energies on next years dealio.  So I have picked up a few hundred dollars worth of odds and ends awaiting next February.  Gotta highly recommend the BeyerDynamic DT770 headphone.  Very natural, good range and great for mixing.  I also picked some pedals for the guitar; Keeley Fuzzhead and a Electro-Harmonics Clone one chorus.   Gome some new editing software and I have some loops CD on order.  I'm basically in training for next year.

How I got hooked into this whole thing was an article on CNN.  They mentioned that an artist broke from thier tour to participate in the RPM Challenge.  I was like, WTF?  I get it now.  This was the most fun I have with my musically obsession since I started playing.  Fun, but exquisitely stressful, irritatingly beautiful thing I've done.  It's like a craving something to eat, maybe something cheesy, and until now nothing really satisfied.  I was waiting for this and I didn't know it.  yeah.  It was that good.

 Does this make any sense??

I got a lot out of this, too. Gained new friends, listened to a lot of great music, found new avenues to have my music heard, and had a good time.
I'll be doing this all again next year, too.

Well I'm kind of at the opposite. I made "Lodestar" on this oversized C didj and that old stick is HARD to play. Exhausting work and I was so done with it in Feb. I told myself it's got to go and that I need a replacement. It's got a large bell that lets air go too soon, it's heavy, it's ugly....but it made "Lodestar" which was a track I almost dropped until Tangmo talked me into to doing it (thanks, BTW).

And it was spiritual. It's a prayer beacon. A calling to those I love to come home, to return to me. It's supposed to be smooth as glass without a seam of my breathing and on that old C stick it was rough going to play 5 minutes continuous -- but ah the vocals on that stick -- that's why I picked it for those chirping vocals I can do on it. And because it was so hard it was like a journey and that's what made it special.

Last month I was didj shopping determined to replace that stick, when I listened to Lodestar again and realized there was a connection and that no other didj could have done that.

So it gets to stay.
