So my birthday is coming up: 8/8. It's a big one, so I get to actually get something cool.
I have a choice to make:
Spend money on a new guitar (the black one):
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gretsch-Guitars-G5122-Double-Cutaway-Electromatic-Hollowbody-Electric-Guitar?sku=514651#new
Spend money on Goliath, which will get me FabFour for free:

OR...........don't spend it yet, use it towards building a real home studio in the basement (real by my standards, it will just be a 14' by 14' area, but soundproofed, cool lights and finally a place to hang up all my guitars in dust proof cases)
So, what say you my fellow RPMer's? What would you do?
Cheers,
Gary

2 I agree Written by Broken Promise Keeper , on 07-02-2009 09:05 I'd have to go with the private, dedicated studio. 200 square feet is pretty big!
3 then again Written by Broken Promise Keeper , on 07-02-2009 09:06 Gretsch guitars are freaking awesome
4 Private space Written by Endicott Road , on 07-02-2009 11:47 is at a premium in our house, so I'd go for the studio. I have to wait until nearly everyone's out of the house before I can record anything, and that doesn't happen very often. Anything you can do to have a recording space of your own, I say go for it. ER
5 Written by Minibar Madness , on 07-02-2009 12:37 Studio room definitely. 1) Someone will just fill tht room up with cushions if you don't use it immediatly 2) You can always smuggle the guitar and the software in later
6 Pass on Goliath. Written by another cultural landslide , on 07-02-2009 14:01 Actually, IMHO, pass on almost anything coming from East/West - and I say this as a past user of many of their packages. (If you want details, email us.) Gretsch is now manufactured by Fender - and actuallym they've done a fine job with them. Beautiful players... But a real studio space? That's a no brainer. ;)
7 Written by Synaptic Disturbance , on 07-02-2009 14:28 I'd also go for the studio space... one of the things that I look forward to with having a house and a real job (as opposed to an apartment and a grad student stipend) is being able to have my own mini-studio that isn't just the living room couch. If you go the software route, you might also consider Native Instruments Komplete 5, which is on sale at Musicians Friend right now for $399 I think.
8 don't build anything Written by angie fights crime , on 07-02-2009 15:36 don't build anything without spending a few weeks on here. http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php
9 Ha! Written by Gary Fox , on 07-02-2009 20:01 Wow! Such great response rates in off-season! Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. I have been leaning towards the studio today, the more I thought about. I have to override that instant gratification instinct when it comes to music... Kirk (or Wendy) I sent you a PM. I want to hear more about your experience.
10 Another Extravagance Written by Gary Fox , on 07-04-2009 09:09 Ok, if they weren't $240 a tile, I would do the whole ceiling in these... www.numinus.com There are cheaper ways to make these I know, but this just looks so cool.
