(Friday, 21 March 2008) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
Friends, We are pleased to announce the contsruction of a new VIRB page devoted to theGOWNS, the band whose remains, "The Vivian Circle" was built upon. Comprised of a young C.Thomas Joseph aka "Barney" of Vivian Circle, and the legendary avant-garde Difficult listening artist/pioneer, Mr. George "Difficult" Tennell. Although thier time together was brief, it's impact upon the surviving members was monumental. "He really just taught me how to just be myself....how to play without overth... (426 more chars)

Corn cakes and snow drifts, and long players
(Tuesday, 12 February 2008) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
We dream of records, of gatefold covers that perfume the air with fresh factory air and the clean black vinyl... liner notes and romatic photo shoots...all the magic that captured our attention when we were kids...the enigmatic figure clutching a microphone stand in our mothers record collection...Ella who, and Dionne what? the names came later, but the magic of bands and singers have always captured our fancy...so with this band we decided early on, there's a consensus about when it was and wh... SHHH!!
(Monday, 11 February 2008) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
Ok. Barney left for his painting studio a few hours ago, and as i was cleaning up the studio i.e. recycling the beer bottles. washing the glasses, empty the ash tray, etc... I usually listen to the play back while i do this....well, i came across a tune that Barney must have done and discarded, but i thought i was so great,(even though I had nothing to do with it.haha) i thought i would post it up on or demo page in case he doesn't want to use it, its too good not to hear....its called fad ... The Passion of Lovers...
(Monday, 11 February 2008) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
So now it begins....for real...the room warm with a tone...a hum...shafts of light cut the Stations high windows, and and ice flow has decorated the ceiling...always jackes and sometimes gloves...its hard to manage the buttons and knobs but...with the light of morning and the smell of coffee...we are ready to "fire up the machines" and make music in the cold cold north of new york. George starts bumping and popping....thump, da, thump da dum, thump da..... repeat.. Barney (who seems to need les... (1817 more chars)

RE: Community Discussion
(Tuesday, 24 April 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
Okay, its really late here on the east coast, Began work on something new today....and then i visited the site, as usual....  and to my surprise (not really though)  the seeds of ideas that have been germenated here have really taken root, and we have possibly the start of something.....  Six days off coffee and wine, as per my stom-ache has been topsy turvy as of late...the same disease we all face...the real world.... Tonight, ive eaten a late dinner, and layed down some new sound... (1028 more chars)

The Community and the Future....
(Saturday, 21 April 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
In the end, it seems that all of this was about community...communication through music as well, but in its necessity, the project created a community of artists...who now seem to be drifting apart as the conclusion of the challenge came to pass.... Many of us have commented on how the larger group interest has diminished since the end of the challenge. But looking at the "who's who in the often returning to see how things are going" scene, the same names pop up often...A good number of us would... (761 more chars)

Barneys story...
(Monday, 26 March 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
The rain is sweeping the coast and Vivian has gone to the airport to pick up Barney, who is crashing here in the barn (where we recorded the our entry in the RPM challenge) until the party in Portsmouth...Barney never goes anywhere without his guitar...a beaten and snickered Fender Strat, maple neck, black w/white pick-guard...so there is always a chance we will record something new. Vivian was real excited that he was coming and even moved some of the instruments back into the recording spa... (2292 more chars)

NETWORK
(Sunday, 18 March 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
There is something to be said for creating your own buzz. even the connections made here on this space are unique and unsettling. The comradre and sincerity of all the participants we have chatted with and shared music has really inspired us...there seems to be a community of artists about to remove the middle man and begin to channel thier energies towards the ears of those others.....

The Dust that hangs...
(Sunday, 25 February 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
We've not cleaned up the barn yet, although all the amps are now cool an, George has been turned 'off' (but he never really leaves does he?) and all the coffee cups have been moved to the kitchen sink. The Harp whose beautiful notes resonated long after the songs had finished, has been returned and Beatrix thanked with warm scones to return to her home in New Rochelle. It was a magical experience.  Its quiet in here, were all those sounds came from. Nuances with a knob or a computer made su... (866 more chars)

Inspiration in the throes of passion.
(Friday, 23 February 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
Okay, but we're really passionate about this music. it seems as we try to finish things up, new ideas appear out of the blue. Strange little gems that just seem so real that we're bumping other things to get them on the record. Weird, but the magic is working the pressure to finish, the satisfaction of making something we really believe in and that has a place for us. We feel energized. In the old barn the space heaters do little to warm the place but somehow while were waiting for the coffee to... (611 more chars)

Finish line
(Wednesday, 21 February 2007) Written by VIVIAN CIRCLE
Well, weve worked really hard, despite a major fall for Barney resulting in a couple of cracked ribs. (ouch!) keep smiling B. and keep the single malt to a minimum. So, today we spun up some cool artwork for the piece, entitled "public record" and off it goes in tomorrows mail. Thanks to everyone for the support, and also to those in charge of RPM 07 we're happy to have participated. Good Luck to all.  Peace Vivian
