my mixes of course sound great here on the computer through itunes, headphones, speakers, stereo we'll give it the car tomorrow and see but i think i'm pretty close and still 1 more day to mix if i need it. so i'm resigned to stop listening to this crap at work right now, i'm so sick to death of nitpicking, and now it's just crazy. i found some normalize function in I-Tunes and burned a CD using that, which of course knocked my levels way the hell down, just like normalize in garageband, so my resolve now is to NOT normalize. i like the way the tracks sound with just the mix-down compression on it and i'll get the levels close and deal with it. i'm also having issues with certain peak/digital d... so i finally got my drums tonight, it shouldn't have mattered, i've got tomorrow off and no kid to watch so it'll be an all day thing, next weekend too. Winter was causing me lack of sleep, the drum break was just NOT lining up and i couldn't figure it out. finally tonight i got it, redid pretty much all the guitars and bass AGAIN, left the accoustic and little solo bass line and walla, i'm serious, except for VOX that song is DONE. too bad no one likes it :(
i think 04_WINTER is pretty much done but the mixing, i'm having issues with the little drumbreakthing towards the end, as it was way out of time and i'm trying to fix it, but it's hard. still waiting for the drum parts for 11 & 12 goddamn it.

so everyone keeps saying my tracks are quiet, and i could figure it out, so i saw that garageband has a normalizer now which says that it makes the track louder, which i thought, hey that's good, right, well it's not, in fact it makes the tracks quieter. i turned that sucker off and boom, there's my volume back on all these tracks. also, i've deleted my demo's also i think i've got one song about done. also my drums tracks for the last two songs have still not showed up. that is all.
oh jeez, last year it was obvious, this year, not so much. I'm absolutely in love with every single track i wrote for this year and none sticks out as my absolute favorite, or THE BEST. I haven't gotten enough feedback from folks to use that as a guide, so crap, and i mean serious CRAP!

so i realized just like 2 days ago the files i brought back from drill only had 9 songs, which didn't strike me until i realized i did drums for 11 songs. so i had to call our unit administrator and ask him if he could check his laptop for those 2 songs and he called this morning to tell me they were on there. so i guess i'll get them on friday. they are the last two songs so i figure tonight i'll do the C song and this weekend the other 3. i actually did 2 songs tonight with the real drums, but for some reason when i copied the files to my flash and back to my computer, the tracks got all screwed up. oh well, i'll fix it later. here's the next song. 07 Song Song
you can read the details if you click the demo link, but basically the drums don't sound anywhere near as bad i thought they might, of course, i've only listened to the one song so far. so i retracked the guitar, bass, and organ, left the scratch VOX, and put that sucker up there, i don't think it sounds too bad, but if you could listen and tell me what you think of the drums, that would be fantastic. thanks.
update on the drums, i spent 2.5 hours attempting to play along with my click tracks, i would say a good 70% went very well, but the other 30% was between horrid and shitbiscuit. i knew it would be tough, but it's over, i'm not going try tomorrow. i'll see what the files sound like when i get them home tomorrow, hopefully not too bad. it was a giant hall with loads of natural reverb, i had 2 overheads, bass, snare and one room mike about 10 feet in front. i got a LOT of the room, i mean, ton... i'm 99% on all lengths and changes on my 12 songs except for one and that is this song "sleep" in A. it's a slow song, 60 pbm, and has an instrumental intro leading up to the first verse. I know this is a skeleton of the song so i can record drums this weekend, but can you tell me if i should AX the intro and go straight into the vox, cut it short, maybe not as many times or leave it as it.
