all alone
(Tuesday, 18 November 2008) Written by Jim Anderson
Quite amazed I'm here all alone. I know it's the off season and even I havent been here in some time, but it's an eerie feeling to be the only one on the site right now. HALLO hallo hallo. Just an echo. Well, I'll be here for february 2009 for sure, and I am purposely NOT thinking ahead to what I might do this year. I think that is the best part of the challenge. Not having any idea until it's time to have an idea. Just thinking of that excites me. I'm looking forward to talking with some famil... (145 more chars)

1st Two, Tracking Done
(Sunday, 16 November 2008) Written by Honeycomb
I've completed tracking on the first two songs (Behind The Photograph and Mistake) from my upcoming CD that will be coming out sometime before RPM 09. These are still rough mixes and are not fully edited, but I think they're coming along nicely. They already sound 200% better by having a proper singer on them. They've been uploaded to my profile here -  Honeycomb

Civil War Tune for Veteran's Day
(Tuesday, 11 November 2008) Written by Cville Ramblings
This one is still a little ragged, but what the heck.  I am changing some lines and I think I need a multi-voice chorus and maybe some "The Band" style horns, but I had to cut out the harmonies for now (they were too far off -- even by my standards!). Just a little something I threw together...
(Monday, 10 November 2008) Written by Some Guy
Well, I've done enough lurking now, time to get back in the RPM mood, after all, February's gonna hit us sooner than we know it. Here's a song I threw together that at first I didn't really like, but then I got some music for it and it's become one of my favorites now. I would love to hear any comments or constructive criticisms!   "DID" Do your parents want to meet me Didn't think so Do your friends all want to meet me Didn't think so You go out in public with me Cause I'm hopeless An... Night Driving's "Flaws" is recorded and mixed
(Sunday, 09 November 2008) Written by Night Driving
Holy sweet. It's finally done.  Months and months and tons of time, and 9 of my 10 tracks are fully recorded and complete. My brother is adding programming to one, and then it will be sent off to a studio for mastering, and the artists and I will begin work on the design and printing. The guy mastering the album has worked with the Sheila Devine, Bright Eyes, the Gigolo Aunts, and the Faint.  Although the album will sound much bulkier and full (and refined) than the RPM version, the songs ... Late Entry
(Saturday, 08 November 2008) Written by Honeycomb
So there I was struggling with getting one of the songs for my new CD working out how I'd like, when suddenly I had a new riff and chord progression. 1.5 hours later and it's a new song to replace the troublesome one. I love it when that happens. Demoed here as usual -  Honeycomb Blowing Without The Wind When your world turns upside down And the prevailing trend is always down Take some comfort from the crowd Don't be embarrassed just to scream out loud You've clambered half-way... here are the words to the new songs. hunger i stand beneath the cloudy city sky, passing time, and gnaw upon, ideas and dreams, broken self solitude, formulate my world around me, wander the streets and ravish my dreams, the scent of food surrounds me, catch them all and soak them in, til i am full of nothing memories, and sometimes i'll write them down and sell them for some wine and cheese and when it's gone i'll go back to my ideas and dreams typing this silence was laughter befo... After finally getting home after hiking the PCT, I finished her up, added some more tunes and tweaked it until my ears bled.  The final result is an hour's worth of aural bliss.  You can listen to the album on Last.fm or Virb . If you just can't wait to own a copy, it is up for sale on Kunaki .  It will be available on all the online shops by the end of November. I'll see all 'yall in the new year!

i'm unhappy with sorry, the vox are stretched.  i like the song, but i may rewrite it tonight to fit in with the other tunes.  i need to add some guitars to everything, then re-do vox now that my hacking cough is gone.  i have tonight and sunday w/o children or wives.  my favorite.  i'd say formwise, typing, hunger, fracture are very close.  i'm re-writing the words to follow, it may include changing the name of the song.  i'm just unhappy with the anger in that song.  i kinda wanna make a happ... Emergency
(Thursday, 30 October 2008) Written by Honeycomb
I've got my album closer done and I'm pretty happy with it. I decided to use some of my formal classical training and scored a chamber orchestra of cello, 2 violas and 2 violins to really fill out the sound and leave me with a 7 minute epic. It's not a final mix or anything and it's still got me singing on it instead of Lyndsay, but the instrument tracking is done. Hear it on my profile as normal here -  Honeycomb The song itself is about the nasty things we're doing to this planet and what ... (579 more chars)

(Wednesday, 29 October 2008) Written by Babys First Ride
Right now, if I could only make one more CD, what would be on that last CD?  A tribute to all the bands that I liked over the years.  Maybe my all time favorite songs.  Maybe all those songs that were on the radio that I KNOW I could do better.  Maybe something socially responcible and timely.  Maybe something that just fun to listen to...or jazzy smooth...or dirty south bluesy.   Maybe a theme CD about the people I 've met on the challenge.  I have a thought, but I'm curious what someone else ... My Upcoming Book: Cover

This only marginally pertains to music (as there is mention of music projects within it), but I've just about wrapped up this year's Sidedown Monograph #3 , and I thought I'd show off the cover of the "Works" section of the monograph:       This year's monograph is actually made up of three distinct books, bundled together.  "Works" is my favorite projects that I worked on for Sidedown this year, "Wonders" is full of curated loveliness, and the third book (still untitled) is a book about ... Right Now
(Sunday, 26 October 2008) Written by Cville Ramblings
It's an epic adventure! Rob Leach laid down this great backing with tons of twists and turns. I threw everything I had at it. The transitions were a little rough -- I think Rob was making up the rhythm guitar part as he went along. Now, since life's transitions are never smooth, why should songs have perfect transitions in them? In fact I think I am going to be the standard bearer for ragged transitions (LOL!). It really is more of a few vignettes put together than a single "song".  Anyway, ... (1688 more chars)

The Soul Of Bing, The Voice Of Murray
(Monday, 20 October 2008) Written by Gary Fox
So, the RPM Holiday Challenge has preoccupied my thoughts for days now. I lifted my self-imposed ban "No Christmas Music Until The Weekend After Thanksgiving" and dove into my collections like a celibate at the Bunny Ranch after winning at the tables. I pulled up Bing Crosby from the 1930's and beyond, Sinatra from the 40's and 50's, Dean, Perry...all the classics. Yes, yes, I admit that G Fox, with the distorted gitazz and loud drums and sh*tty, raspy vocals really, truly, deeply loves those o... (2194 more chars)

so when i was workin on E! i asked for comments from friends and former band members who said that it sounded too different, not connected, and in the end, their opinions became a moot point, they didn't like the music and had nothing of value to say about anything aside from the mix, which i did take into account, and in the end i think i put out the best 12 songs of my life and a CD that I not only enjoyed writing, but i still listen to and play the songs on my own.  so i'm a song writer, i'm... Rock and Recovery
(Tuesday, 14 October 2008) Written by Gary Fox
Well,  I finally had that bad attitude removed. I have the stitches to prove it. After spending 4-5 days on antibiotics and painkillers, the bruising and swelling may finally be going down and I may actually have the desire to pick up a gtr again, but not quite yet. I still can write run-on sentences with the best of them though. The painkillers definitely help with the logorrhea... In the haze of recovery, I did get a couple of ideas for the new record.
