Re:May Music - 2008/05/09 23:53I've been writing a bunch and actually spent the last weekend in the studio working on my band's next record. It includes a couple of the tunes that were written for RPM, so that was pretty fun! I'm hoping to demo some more stuff soon, so I'll keep you all posted... err post... err groan.

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/05/12 01:09Here's my 3rd "completed" tune this year. OK, so it's not completed, but it is what I have so far.
Well it was just another same ole, hot steamy day When my buddy comes along, just to say There’s a big happening going on way over there Everyone’s going, we better hurry If we wanna make the scene
Well it seems this rebel’s got everyone riled They’ll probably gonna bust him and have a big trial So let’s get going, we don’t wanna be late He might end up as lion’s bait We might not get a chance like this again
So we get there and what do we hear? Blessed are the poor in spirit Blessed are they that mourn – for they will be comforted Blessed are they that thirst and hunger for righteousness – for they will be filled Blessed are the pure of heart – for they will see God
Jesus, sweet Jesus How ya gonna feed us We’ve got 5,000 souls A few fish and loaves
Jesus, sweet Jesus It’s all a mystery to me But I see and Now I do believe
Instrumental break
Jesus, sweet Jesus Where ya gonna lead us Sometimes it seems like such A stark and lonely path
Jesus, sweet Jesus I now know what is true So I guess I’ll pick up my cross and follow you

kirk & wendy, aka acl, aka another cultural landslide
P.S. Okay - we've now gone ahead & posted all three of the new songs JW was kind enough to present on his acl B-Sides podcast last week - and you can now download them here (and of course, they're free)... so I guess this'll count toward both our May & June Music.
Okay - now it's your turn... are you making music?

Re:June Music - 2008/06/04 06:01I've got a couple of tracks I've started... one of which I might actually DO something with. I've also got another one that I haven't posted online yet, but that I've probably already tinkered with more than I did my entire RPM album. But hopefully I'll have something of it to present soon.
*EDIT*
OK, OK... I went ahead and converted the latest rough mix of my new track to MP3 and posted it... Here you go.

This is a slow burner, Joshua. Cool Stuff. I like the plucked bass/cello sound especially.

It's an a capella piece about an ex-football player turning to drugs.
Don't ask.

Re:June Music - 2008/06/04 18:33@Gumbo - thanks! And yeah, plucked bass!
@Room34 - love it, especially the second half! I actually thought of you the other day when the current issue of GOOD magazine arrived. Inside was an article about all the wondrous man-made "natrual disasters" that people can go check out.
@Jim Tyrrell - holy crap, that's great. I haven't listened to any a capella in a while. Fantastic.

Re:June Music - 2008/06/04 18:44I've got 5 tracks written for an EP I'm going to put out solo hopefully by the end of July, and 6 tracks demoed for my full bands LP which I should hopefully finish by the end of September.

Re:June Music - 2008/06/04 21:35I have a dozen snippets, which will probably be fodder for next February. I'm trying to get my experimental side out, so I can concentrate more on melody.

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/14 04:43I haven't been around much -- sorry. I signed up for the 50 songs in 90 days challenge. I don't think I'll make it, but it is song-writing mayhem. Here's one of the loose ones!
Jam track from Rob Leach and fenderforum.com, I added lyrics and two guitars. Some phrasing still needs to be worked (especially the last lines of the two "verses"), but so far I am liking it.
Wake up and tell me that you love me I just need to hear it Wake up and tell me that you need me I just can’t get enough
Hey remember that time When I fell and stumbled And my mind was a messed up jumble Until you said those words to me
Wake up and tell me that you love me I just need to hear it Wake up and tell me that you need me I just can’t get enough
(Instrumental Break)
Sometimes I feel all alone And I know that is foolish I’m just lucky to have you to cherish So can I hear those words one more time
Wake up and tell me that you love me I just need to hear it Wake up and tell me that you need me I just can’t get enough

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/16 18:38Since this is such a hotbed of activity, I'll throw another one down (LOL!).
Paul and Don at the Les Paul Forum posted this hot backing track to allow jammers to go wild. I added lyrics and the guitar solo. The pedal steel is actually a BIAB loop. Any way, the computer crashed once losing the second half vocals and my voice started to give out on the second try (I am getting over a bad cold and I still have a little residual cough). Ok, enough excuses, I can't sing even when I am healthy!

P.S. Oooops. I take it back - I totally forgot that in the very last hours of June (literally), we did this remix project as a part of a contest (we didn't win, of course, but that's not why we end up doing things) - and then posted it on July 1... so I guess this counts as our July music:

OK. We'll try this again...I've been slacking apparently not turning out anything new. I have been polishing up the existing. But I have made some decision for next year. "Low Fidelity" is the project name. Previously, I have always gravitate towards techno beats and fills. I hope to return to the classic power trio style of music; Bass, guitar and drums. Not to be confused with the deep south trio - autoharp, milk jug and 9" skillet. But ya'll have fun!

Re:July Music - 2008/07/22 03:52OK, my new project is done! Although I originally envisioned it as a 5-track EP, I decided to omit two tracks (one, due to a previous commitment to a VUA project, and the other because I just wasn't satisfied with it and it didn't fit the concept well enough).
Enjoy! I've had some craziness going on in my personal life for the past few days so I've had to put a hold on releasing it through INDISTR, Kunaki, etc. But it's all done, the cover art is done, and you can listen to it all in stunning 256 kbps MP3 format on my site at the link above.
Comments welcome!

Re:July Music - 2008/07/22 04:59Ok! The latest single from the Tonefreak Soundlab, "Short Term Memory Stick". Believe it or not, I've been working on this puppy on and off for about the past year, and I'm glad to finally put it to bed. It's in my profile player, just go to the little person icon to the left to get there.
peace to all

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/23 13:45Pretty standard I-IV-V blues shuffle jam from Rob Leach and I got carried away a little with too much guitar. At the very end, I thought "What about the harmonica?" -- but it was a little crowded to fit it in.
Tough singing the 1st three stanzas. I tried to break it up in different takes (1 per stanza) -- and it sounded just like I was trying to do that (LOL!). So, One straight shot! I need to re-try the vox one more time.
She was six foot Four Hardly fit through the door She said she loved me true I just don't know what to do

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/24 07:05@Scott: Absolutely love "Interlude". Amazing. "Lunar Landing" has something in it that reminds me of a Basement Jaxx tune. A more mellow one, of course

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/24 21:47A sneak peak of a new project from godxiliary, called "Alphabets & Animals". People picked a letter, decided on an animal, and wrote a song.
I had a blast cranking this one out yesterday morning, hope you enjoy it!

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/27 05:08I wrote this one yesterday in response to a perfect storm: a) Jean had a "Blues" composition challenge on the jpf Songwriting board, b) cdaughtry posted a great blues jam by at the les paul forum, c) I'm falling behind on my 50/90 stuff and d) I read this blog by Craig Bickhardt: http://ninetymilewind.blogspot.com/2008/07/voices-of-comfort-and-protest.html . I went a little raucous on the lead and totally went crazy at the end -- Oh well.
******************************************** Foreclosure Blues (c) Music: Unknown, Lyrics: Emmrich 2008
The notice came in the mail today I was hoping this day would never come I said the notice came in the mail today I prayed and prayed that this day would never come
The neighbors got theirs last week, let me tell ya now the future's getting kind of bleak, yes it is where are all the kids and moms gonna go? Does anybody really know?
I look at my wife and I look at my daughter, too I'm feeling like I let ‘em down I said I look at my wife and I see my daughter’s eyes, now too I'm feeling like I just let them down, yes I have
failure gnaws at me like a fear that can't be shaken and all I see are hopes and dreams that have been forsaken by those who have done no wrong. Lord have mercy on us all
(If you are gonna play a blues lead, now is the time to do it!)
You know I've worked real hard all my life and I always thought I could take good care of my own But lose a job or have a kid get sick and the ends that once met, just don't seem to meet
Now, I don't expect the government to take care of me and I really don't care about passing blame But just letting the ones down that love you and need you is enough to drive a man insane
