NPR! - 2008/04/02 02:40So, I was approached by a producer from NPR about being featured for my RPM submission this year. I am completely honored by this! Anywho, if any of you want to check it out, here is the link http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=15466058
They are featuring more RPMers throughout the month...

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 07:40wow. congratulations to you. and as an avid NPR listener, if i were invited to join (myspace.com/nightdrivingmusic)....
i can't even do this seriously.
but yeah, what i'm saying is that i'd freak the hell out, and would probably explode onto the walls and ceiling in my room, rendering myself unavailable for a feature story and certainly a broken contact for a simple discussion piece.
oh well....i still did something i never thought i could do.
very pleased with myself.

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 07:42Yeah, very very cool, and in my opinion they picked a very good artist to start off their April line-up with.
Kudos!

Kudos! Agreed Joshua, agreed. I am listening now and also pushed through a few myspace friend requests. Good on yer, Peter.
Like the blog space as well. Hope this NPR thing turns into whatever you are hoping it turns into. Perhaps the universe will make good on its karmic debt to you, or at least help boost album sales to pay for smashed windshields.
Cheers,
Gary

Excellent work with this album. It's definitely among the best I've heard from RPM this year. Great hooks and melodic sensibility, man. This would be a very fun project to be a part of. Move to Boston and band it up with me.

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 18:10So, Peter. How do reckon Second Stage found you? Are they just trolling the Jukebox looking for gems? Or were you proactive?

I've yet to figure that out. I got a private message here on RPM on Monday night, and Tuesday it went up online. They did use my "featured" track, so I wonder if that had something to do with it. Apparently they are featuring more RPM artist through April. I don't know if it is a weekly or daily thing. Yesterday being the first makes it hard to tell. To be honest, yesterday being the first made me think that it may all be a joke hehe

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 19:52I think it was mentioned earlier that is would be based on preferred track. So some people scrambled to pick a different track for that reason. I would probably die from shock if I ever heard Gaia on the radio but I completely stand by my choice.

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 20:02yeah...the preferred track is an interesting issue.
i chose mine based on what people might like to hear during the listening party. the one that perhaps sounds the best, most well done, was a downer.
but if NPR's going to make me a giant star and buy me a new house and car and cook my dinners and everything, maybe i should change it?

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 20:11hmmm...I put in "Long Days" for my prefered track for all sorts of different reasons. Although I'm a little like you Night, it might not be the best "well-done," production or other-wise (at least the version that's on the jukebox, I've played around with eq'ing a little bit more low-end into it on another version now, and even then, it's still probably not the most "well-done."). My best on the "sent to RPM version" probably could have been "Short Days" or "Non-Practical" or something, which are kind of downer songs, kind of like your situation it sounds.
I guess it will all depend on their criteria, whether they're going specifically for more "well-done" songs or something else.

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/02 20:30From Dave's 3/16 post in yet another NPR topic:
dave wrote: We'll be providing the Second Stage staff with a set of the preferred tracks that you all chose, and they'll pick a few bands that they'd like to showcase. It's not a contest though, and it's more about calling attention to the efforts of ALL RPMers than any one band.
So the list RPM HQ posted back on the 21st was most probably what was provided to Second Stage...
... then again, who knows? Ever since we signed onto the Jukebox, it kept changing our preferred track; which - for ACL & our random way of doing things - is actually kind of fitting. Go figure.
kirk (& wendy) aka acl, aka another cultural landslide
p.s. Uh, no - I still can't type worth a damn.

Re:NPR! - 2008/04/04 05:44I just listened to the first three RPM songs featured on second stage. Way cool! My hat is off to NPR for selecting such creative, passionate examples of why we come here. Great job, folks!
... and congrats!
