Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/17 10:14 So I was going to buy a guitar book with lots of "easy" songs to practice while I learn to play the guitar but then I thought of you guys.

So if anyone wouldn't mind hearing a cover version (yes, done by me, so I'm likely to be faithful to the tune and the lyrics but the arrangement will suit a beginner guitarist with wall flower vocals) of one of their SIMPLER songs, please let me know! All I ask is for a copy of the lyrics and the chords (that would really help!), and your permission. I'll also want to put the cover on my SoundClick page if I like it, so I'll also need your permission for that, and I'll also need to know who wrote it. I'm not asking much, am I?

Naturally I'm hoping for at least 10 so that I can have my own cd of rpm08 covers - yee-ha! But right now, one volunteer would make my day.

I'm posting this as a thread in case anyone else wants to do something similar.

Message me, or reply here.

No laughably tricky chords, thanks!

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/17 11:35 Stop by my profile and let me know if you would be interested in:

Let That River Flow, Wednesday Type of Girl or Town on The Edge. They are all pretty simple and (except for a couple of lines in Wed.) a fairly easy sing.

What a gift! "Town's on The Edge" please!! I absolutely adore "Wednesday Type of Girl", but it's a bit too ambitious for me at the moment. That said, I have no idea what any of these chords are... Great harmonies by the way.

Yeay! I knew this was a great idea!

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/17 14:22 if you like anything of mine, id be glad to help you out with the chords, even simpler versions of them if you would like.

"watch it go" isnt too too tough, and i could give you a simpler version of "the view from up here" if you would like as well. what an interesting idea you have!

"Watch it go" I have always loved - the lyrics are amazing. It sounds tricky...a simpler version would be fantastic, if possible.

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/17 17:01 You know what we should start? A thread of lyric/chord sheets of any songs we want to share. Wouldn't that be fun? We could all start covering each other's stuff...mmmmmmm delightful! In fact, I'll start it in a minute with Kounter Kulture...

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/17 22:51 Haha! You will regret this! I can give you the chords to all the Gods songs we ever wrote (well, the ones where I wrote the music anyway). They have the advantage of being dead easy...

PM me if you want them

I think "Now" is one of the best songs I've heard this year, and your voice is amazng on it, so I'll steer clear of that one. Will listen to your cd again tomorrow and try to pick one out. Thanks! (Though your soaring vocals are quite intimidating!)

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/18 08:48 You are more than welcome to cover any of my songs off RPM 08!

Look me up in the media jukebox thingie under IronAngel Forge if you have a bit of time. "Blacksmith" is quite easy, and none of the album is very complicated at all (I wrote it to perform at shows; sing a verse, grab a bar of hot steel and hammer that into shape, put it back in the fire and back to the song... really easy stuff for when Im out of breath and sweaty).

If anything in there catches your attention, send me a note via the rpm system and I will get you the chords and words (even tabs for anything you might want!).

And that pretty much goes for anyone wanting to cover my stuff, let me know and have a go. None of it is complicated, most RPM'ers can figure it out on the first listen. Except for the mistakes, I dont think I could repeat a couple of those.

Ye got yer studio sorted out?

All my tunes are up for non-commercial coverage. I wonder what the chords were sometimes.

Man I wish I could, Raleigh. That is a great song. I could always add a didj part and upload the results! A lot of didj is mimic -- tons of animal calls you do in traditional playing.

Give it a whirl. Conversely, if you have any of those "animal calls" floating around in a wave format I'd love to incorporate them into future projects.

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/19 17:18 The music for my cover of Escape by Angie Fights Crime is pretty much done.

It's uptempo, it's got a snaky bass line, it's got crashing guitars, it's got brass!!!

Just the vocals to do, and my usual vocalist is going to give it a go as I don't have the voice to do it justice. She'll be on the mic after her football team have finished playing so be prepared for the aural assault in about 6 hours...

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/19 17:47 You're welcome to any of mine that you want, too. They're all downloadable on my site at http://www.kaistarr.com/music/ . Most of them are pretty simple. I know you liked "Nobody Home," but that one won't work right on guitar. It needs the church bells and organs to sound properly antisocial and Gothy. I tune all my guitars half a step down, too, so it better matches my weird voice, but I think they'd probably work ok in standard tuning. If you want any of them, I'll be happy to send you lyrics and chords.

Re:Cover versions of RPM songs - 2008/04/19 23:57 My cover of Escape by Angie Fights Crime is up on my profile. It's completely different to the original - more uptempo, brass etc. Hopefully he approves.

It also features my regular singer (my other half - Lyndsay) and I'm relegated quite rightly to backing vocals.
