Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/07/29 07:29I tend to forget about that site. Acid Planet is an old but highly active site, easy to use and easy to make changes. Sorely disappointed with Virb. It has such potential, but its just not pulling much traffic. It have just recently uploaded a few tracks on AP, including two new songs not part of this years challenge.

The issue with Virb is that many people up there are bands looking for fans, but not a lot of fans looking for bands. What I like is the number of songs you can put up, it's layout and ease of use.
I also use Acid Planet, and I of course use MySpace. I still get more traffic from MySpace than anyplace else. I have also discovered the following site, thanks to My Imaginary Life. (she is doing well there, as is Jim Tyrrell)
This site is very, very cool. This site is loaded with people who are looking for new music. If they like your stuff, you get 'bumped'. The more you get bumped, the more songs you can upload. Check it out for the full deal. I am closing in on level 8, which I am happy with.
Cheers,
Gary
PS-I have some ideas for songs that I haven't had time to do a thing with. At least I will have some seeds to plant for February. I also have been doing a lot more experimenting with MIDI, so that's bound to come through in some fashion.

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/08/01 06:41Nice job Gary, Nitrogen is very, very good! I can see why you have been bumped so many times. Alright guys look him up as 'The Rain Dogs' on thesixtyone.

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/08/01 06:59Thanks Oz, very kind of you. It's from RPM '07. We did a Songfight inspired theme where a lot of RPMer's wrote a song called Nitrogen. That's my version.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Gary

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/08/01 17:38Gary, VERY cool track...really like it. I'm gonna send Kirk the site and see what he wants to do... so thanks for the heads up! We are using: alonetone and Virb. Virb seems dead but we are getting good traffic on alonetone. Again really like the track and will go back and listen to more!

AUGUST MUSIC - 2008/08/05 20:10It's a new month, which means more music!
I just finished up Winchester Session #20: Ascendent Factions. LINK
This one's a bit different than what I usually do, in that I picked an odd (for me) tempo, and went with a quarter note kick for several portions of it.
I also had a chance to break out the old accordion I just picked up, but I couldn't play it too much this time around; had to keep the noise down.

Re:AUGUST MUSIC - 2008/08/06 17:15Got some songs of my own up...can hear them on the virb site ( www.virb.com/andrewbrewer ). A couple of them are basic heavy rock songs. They are also my first stabs at drums. Or, in this case, drum programming I suppose, I downloaded and used Hydrogen. Hopefully they are half-way decent. The songs still need bass. Hopefully I can get that from someone in the future here. "Mindreader" and "New Old" are the names. Also have done a third song, "Candle," which is kind of a drone-y kind of rock song. Also might be nothing but a complete mess. I guess I'll see. Although it sounds like an outtake from my '07 album, very stripped-down, semi-distorted, drudgy guitar and vocals. Written and recorded in the early morning hours of Monday, when I was probably way too tired to realistically be trying to do anything like that. Also probably has the most random lyrics I've ...ever...come up with. Probably will try to do a couple of more songs, one closer to the sound of this years RPM album, and another that I think I'm going to borrow some drum patterns from Ministry or someone like that (should be fun), and then probably try to do the whole "band" thing again, at least one more time. Anyway, all three of the mentioned songs are the first three songs on the player in virb, also under the "Boneyard" album under the discography section.

This is an instrumental jam with myself on my new electric geetar. But I hope to have a version with lyrics/vocals real soon.
It's in my profile player, click on the little dude to the left.

Re:So... Now What? An idea. - 2008/08/28 20:37A new August tune! This is probably the most melodic backing I have ever worked with. Janet helps out with harmonies and oohs and aahs. Mix suggestions (and all other comments) are always welcome.
You tell me we’ve got to leave this place Go and find some open space Tell me where that might be And I’ll join ya, I’ve just gotta see
Half way round the world we’ve come Always looking for that distant sun I guess it’s just a choice we’ve made And still I think you’re great
The bells ring and people shout Wondering what this fuss is all about They’ll never know what we know ‘cause they’re trapped, have forgotten how to grow
(Instrumental Break -- Verse)
The bells ring and people shout Wondering what this fuss is all about They’ll never know what we know ‘cause their trapped and their lives are just for show
You tell me we’ve got to leave this place Go and find some open space I know exactly where that might be Let’s go, we’ve just got to see
The bells ring and people shout Wondering what this fuss is all about They’ll never know what we know ‘cause they’re trapped, have forgotten how to grow
