any drummers and/or bassists available? - 2008/02/28 16:42
Seeing if there's anybody (or two) who might be interested in doing a bass and drum track for two songs I'm doing for this month. If you've just got some kind of freakishly empty schedule before tomorrow, obviously that would be cool. However, if it can't be done until March, that will be equally cool as well. I'm just thinking there might be enough decent stuff going onto this album that might just make it worth my time to properly finish (well, as finished as an indie-rock/acoustic record is gonna be), even if it is in March. From what I've seen on other posts, I'll probably not be alone. It's like there's going to be version/mastering 1 (Feb.) and then version/mastering 2 (March) of everybody's album. Anyway, the two songs are "Always On" and "Chasing Ghosts." Both of them I've loaded into the sample engine.
Anyway, the more detailed story goes that January, I had verbal commitments from a drummer and a bassist that they could put drums and bass on a couple of songs. So I formed two songs around the idea of wanting backing instuments and the rest not. Good thing I didn't really go over that. First my drummer pretty much quit music (work and school in the way, he's just not into doing music anymore). Ok, I said, I've still got a bassist, just don't go too overboard on the distortion and he can add a good backbeat there. Won't be perfect, but good enough. Well, haven't heard from him in a week or two (despite trying to get in touch), so that's not going to happen.
Anyway, got two options.
-Find more people in the area later (there's a few possibilities, but at this point, it seems like a vicious cycle: meet other musicians, they get excited on doing stuff/what I'm doing, but eventually they go MIA, or I meet them once and they never get back with me again (despite them saying that they're very interested in doing stuff when I originally talked to them)). Don't know if it's me or if this is just a musicians' curse, but I think at this point, I'm going to try option two...
-trying to find someone or two here who can do bass and drums to get me some tracks and finish the songs. Anyway, I don't know drums and I don't know bass, so most likely I'm not going to be naggy or anything about people's playing. If it sounds good to me, that'll do.
