Second "demo" up (again, doubt I'll do much more to it). Empty:

I have three tunes up on my myspace....Clawhammer jig, Snowmelt and the Raven's Eye. Still have quite a bit of mixing and stuff to do but they are sounding OK.

Re:first track uploaded - 2008/02/16 01:07
DoctorMatt, wouldn't that prove that finishing an album in a month is impossible?
With the classic zeno paradox, yes: you have to produce half the album, then another quarter, then another eighth, etc. : an infinite number of steps to make an album, and how can we do an infinite number of steps? (Of course, we do it all the time...)
I was suggesting a silly variant on that process, which I am free to terminate at any time...
cheers,
Matt

More songs are up. Actually, one is up again. "Ghost Edit." Was up for about five minutes before I took it down again. Wasn't happy with it when I listened to it, although I ended up not changing much. I used to have something on top of the guitar in the first half of the song, hopefully the lone guitar that's there now doesn't sound too repetitive. I think however, I'm just tired of messing with it anymore. So unless there's any kind of glaring problems, I'm probably going to leave it.
"Ghost Edit" is both in the sample machine and my myspace page. Also have another new song, "Non-Practical," a straight-forward acoustic, up on the myspace page. In a minute here, I'll load that one into the sample machine as well. Dealing with dial-up, so it'll be up in....about...a year. Well, figuratively speaking, but it'll be a while. As I said though, you want to hear it immidiately, it's definitely on the myspace page.
The page to hear both these songs on: www.myspace.com/andrewbrewer1

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/16 22:44
Knowing that my son was going to come over today and confiscate his electric guitar I've been using, I sat down with it for an improv session, running it through some of Logic's ambient effects. Stylistically the piece is such a radical change from the rest of the album, I don't know if I'll use it. It might put me in that "unclassifiable" genre. Maybe it'll be a "bonus" track. Have to wait and see what I have come the 28th...
Also put up new and improved versions of Decent Descent and John's Rag.
Keep plugging away brothers and sisters!

I've uploaded several more demos to my virb account:
"Tinklie Bits" is a noise collage; I think it sounds something like the Residents trying to cover Can but someone's drunk & his finger keeps getting stuck between the keys at odd times...
"Blocked Chimes" combines found audio, a weird beat and screwed up synths, but in a good way.
"Why Does Everyone Walk Their Dog on Pavlov Ave?" sounds like an '80s Industrial Rock act playing a toy ray gun & a squeaky balloon.
"The Reverse of Hero" is a bit of Ambient Space Synth noodling that feels nice to me.

Well, for one reason or another, I had to spend a whole week away from the studio. Managed to get back there a few days ago and pull a couple of space blues dance tracks out of my trusty space hat!
I've uploaded these two to my profile. Not sure how to link there though. I keep following other people's links and ending up on my own profile page...
Give this a try:

They're called "Final Approach" and "Deep Field Pizza". Hope you like 'em

I replaced all my old demos (which are finished tracks now) with brand new ones from this weekend. Please take a listen (in the profile, of course), they're just short clip/ideas right now.

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/18 17:17
Another day, another song, kind of how it's feeling now, which, well, for what we're doing isn't exactly a bad thing. New song is up, "Here Again." Can't tell what kind of classification this song fits into...if anybody figures it out, let me know. Some parts almost sound "mainstream," others don't. Sometimes it depends when I'm listening to it. For whatever reason, it just seems to be a hard song to analyze from where I am. Of course, just as long as it's good...all I ask. As always, if anybody wants to give any feedback, always appreciated.
Managed to load it into the engine, it and the other five demos I have though are up on my myspace page: www.myspace.com/andrewbrewer1 . I'm hoping to load at least a couple of those into the engine too, but either it wants to take a year to load, and I'm logged out before I get it in, (dealing with dial-up at home), or I try to bring them to work to upload, and forget them. I thought the internet was supposed to make life easier...lol.

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/18 22:06
Well, as the month is winding down, I'm faced with 8.5 songs and plenty of sketches to complete. All in all, The Curious Flying Machine turned out very different than intended. I have the "completed" songs up on my profile, so check them out if you like.
One specific question: I have a song called "Sal's Wild Years / Sal & Ramona". It clocks in at over 5 minutes, and really is two separate songs linked with a bit of "Man On the Flying Trapeze" (which I'm thankful is public domain at this point.) Should I count it as two songs or one? The temptation is to call it two so that I am done with 9 songs instead of 8, but that seems like I'm just trying to get the thing done. HELP!

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/19 02:20
Ooops - forgot to post this to the main Demos thread. (It's obvious my brain is starting to fog out as we close in on the deadline. )
We've just added a new demo, one seasonal dance, to:
• our RPM profile page (128Kbit)]
• our Virb site (128Kbit) , and
• our alonetone RPM demos page (256Kbit)
We'd actually recommend listening to this one on the alonetone page - because we can upload 256Kbit MP3's there - thus it sounds much better. (Yes, we're sound quality snobs - we admit it - and for some reason, 128Kbit seems to gargle audio on sustained notes. Grrrr.)
Anyway, we hope you enjoy it - as we've thoroughly enjoyed listening to everyone else's demos here.

Yerta - Spirit of earth - 2008/02/19 03:20
The land we walk on, the food it provides, the space to live -- spirit of the earth.
All about the smoothest of circular breathing here. No seams, no breaths, just sacred vibrations.
Come trip with me. Headphones recommended.

God my brain needed that. Thank you. i hadn't been able to get to sleep, so i checked in and downloaded WaveEditor and listened to your track - shook me up real good. Halfway through I could hear my headphones moving independently of my head - that's what it felt like - my head staying put and my headphones moving, but in reality it must have been my neck/brain relaxing. And then Yuuwa followed - perfect. Thanks, mate

Ive got 3 songs on my profile, just click the little guy under my picture and the thumbs to left of this. The first song is anstrumental, the second is a song about a cop, and third is a joke to celebrate finishing my tenth song!!! Now i go to the merry land of overdubs and redoing vocal tracks that i will never be happy with! ENjoy, and feel free to laugh at the third song (titled "Track Ten") as i do not take it seriously whatsoever myself!

By the way, for those of you that have your own websites (like moi), why not post your high quality mp3s (or OGG or whatever) on your site and link to them rather than uploading here. As we all know, bandwidth + storage = $$$.
A noted plus to this is it's easier to get to someone's songs via a direct link than trying to navigate this site.

Song is called Frida. It's a blues thing mostly, with some jazz flavorings. Mick might recognize the progression as it's the same one I used for one I hoped we could do together so I wrote it with didj in mind. Still no complete lyrics, but if I can get through this block, it'll be a damn good song.
Prolly the last demo I'll post.
