Re:Post your demos here. - 2008/02/06 08:01Sorry only a short snippet to wet your appetite. The first I Love Jen! album was eclectic, so shall this one be. Here's the chorus to the "soul" version of Don't Tase Me Bro which will have an accompanying gansta rap version on the B side.
After yesterday's auspicious beginnings (the song "Hospital" finished and recorded), I felt like I had a little momentum built up when I got out of bed today. And then I wrote a brand-new song and recorded it in its entirety!
The song is called "Miss Belvedere" and you can listen to the rough mix of it at my RPM Challenge MySpace page.
If you're curious, "Miss Belvedere" refers to the 1957 Plymouth buried in a vault for 50 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma and unearthed last summer. I actually made a roadtrip with my friend Bud to attend the unveiling ceremony that day; if you haven't heard, the car was completely ruined from water seepage. (You can read all about it and see lots of pictures I took that day right here.)
Let me know what you think!
Best, MC

I am definitely going to be listening out for your completed album. I love the demos you've posted. Reminds me of something by the Elephant 6 collective, perhaps mostly like Apples In Stereo.

Re:Post Demos— Here! - 2008/02/06 17:28Yeah. I'm working my way through it and everything here has been great. Already tons of listening just in this thread and there's more in the blogs.
I hope the "Music" link works soon in the profiles. That'll be awesome.
Makes me want to actually finish something so I can post a demo, too.

Sounds like a pennywhistle or fife in Overnight Coach. Is that a sample or are you blowing something?

Re:Post Demos— Here! - 2008/02/06 17:45That is indeed a pennywhistle that I'm playing in that one. I don't use any external samples in anything- only self-sampling... and sequencing drums digitally because, well, I don't have drums and would probably suck at playing them if I did

Thought that might be the case. Very nice work on the tin then, man. Playing a pennywhistle that smooth after the hard attack on the opening ain't easy. Nicely done.
I'm playing the pennywhistle on Sky in mine but that's an airy beatless piece that meanders and ambles along without any need for a tempo of any sort. Nothing like yours.
An amazing work, Joshua, and knowing how much control it takes to play that squeaky little piece of tin, you got my respect in droves. Your instrumentation choices are always so spot on in your songs.
Maybe you could finish your album in another week and I could use it for inspiration on my own.

I've spent way too much time on this one. 6 days in, and only one mostly-finished track to show for it. Still 9 others to be written and recorded. And i've only got two good ideas as yet...
I still think it needs... ...something... ...but i'm not entirely sure what. (actually, what it needs is an accordian track during some of the instrumental sections )
I'm going out on a stylistic limb here - i've never really written stuff like this before, though i greatly enjoy others'. So far, i'm pretty happy with it. Lyrically, i love it.

Thanks! Like the Elephant 6ers (Apples included), sounding derivative and wearing your influences on your sleeve is not a no-no in my book.
Everyone is impressing the hell out of me. Keep up the good work!

Ha... if it keeps snowing like it is now... that might actually happen!
Thanks for the pennywhisle kudos... you're right, that thing is frustrating! The instrument I must really get some handle on next is the banjo.
I go for a "play as many instruments as possible just a little bit" approach rather than the much more realistic "learn how to play a select few instruments really well" tactic, haha.

Re:Post Demos— Here! - 2008/02/07 00:46My latest demo is up on Virb and on my profile page. It's called "Behind The Moon" and is a kind of disco/rock crossover. Give it a listen, you'll understand...
The Master has asked me to explain that even though the medicine has been thoroughly vile , it seems to make no difference whatsover and the only thing that ever helps is music.

Re:Post Demos— Here! - 2008/02/07 01:45I put the one song I have done up. In my profile player.
It's Bukkianna Meyu a traditional Aboriginal style that mimics a heartbeat in the bass rhythm and another rhythm using vocals and harmonics on top. It's a breathy and guttural didjeridu solo with a pulsing rhythm.
My meditation piece for this year.

That's way cool.
Edit: I posted this after listening only to Mick's song. I should have waited to post something until I listened to some of the other items. There is some great stuff here people!

Kennyc... what's your profile? I tried to search "kennyc" and it doesn't show up.
Same to you, Jimmywes.

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/07 05:19I started my own thread, but I guess I should have posted here instead. Anyway here's my first RPM tune. It's called Darkest Recesses and the backing track is composed and performed by Rob Leach. I did the vocals and lead break.
