4 electronic demos - 2008/02/13 18:21 Fellow RPMers -
I've uploaded 4 demos from my planned project Cyborg Love Songs, an electronic rock album. Influenced by late-period Depeche Mode, Underworld, and IAMX.

Perfect - Whole-tone scale, almost dance.
Magnesium and other metals - Robot ballad.
CTRL-Q - Electronic blues/schaffel about addiction.
Home is where the hum is - Ambient-ish.

Please check 'em out and give me some feedback!

Re:4 electronic demos - 2008/02/13 19:02 Listening to Perfect:
definetly hear Underworld influence. Also maybe some KMFDM.

Your sound is old-school but put-together on this track.

Advice/crits: - tighten up your vocoder sound, it's a little lost in the mix. I might boost the highs on your vocals. They actually sound a little too dry in this mix, maybe a short reverb and a little chorus? Dunno.

I really like the beat that comes in a little after 3:00, I might use that more through the track. The snare has a surprising amount of punch.

I might add some incidental vocals or vocal stabs, right now you have the vocoder and the main vocals, but you could probably have a bridge or break with some neat vocal bits in there.

Overall it works.

Listening to magnesium:
I don't really like the snare sound you have in the beginning. Really like what you're doing with the plucky synth around 1:30, I might bring that more to the fore in varoius parts of the track.

Listening to CTRL-Q:
Hearing a lot of KMFDM here. (just my own reference for tracks like this)
I was going to suggest making your snare sound a little 'smackier' but it does that after a bit. The intro snare you're using, I might actually reel it in a little to make more of a contrast between that and the other one.

Overall this one really rocks.

Listening to home is where the hum is:
Not much to say here. It works really well as is. I don't think adding a lot of stuff would help at all, and what is there right now sounds fine.

If you want to listen to a fellow electronic dude's tracks I would appreciate any advice you have on "Confessions of a Wannabe DJ" and maybe "Beater board" in particular.

Good stuff man!
