Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/02 23:47New Poo Poo Platters - the title track from their 2008 RPM Album "BARR". Listen on their MySpace page. Believe it or not, they did this in ONE take this afternoon. It was actually the third song they recorded today, but the first they wanted to release. Look for the others in the coming week.
We're in the mutual fan club, then, Sleeves. That's a lovely bit of music. More melodic than Nick Cave, and more pathos than Tom Waits. I took a download of that if that's all right. If it's not finished I'll eat it and have the next version

the story as it stands in the song info is true. the question was asked and I made up a rhyme for the answer, and later made up a tune to go with the rhyme, and later still another verse to go with the first, and so on.
Somewhere it morphed into that universal relationship in a cabin on a mountain, with kids and a goat and a guitar, and a good view. Like Thoreau if he hadn't been such a loner.
I wanted to redo the percussion but my friend Sandy* came round and helped me drink too much wine, before running off with my new DVDs. Luckily he left the Spaghetti Westerns he'd borrowed before (months before). Also there's a session down one of the local pubs tomorrow so the weekend is efffed from a recording point of view. I just did the guitar and left it. Percussion can wait.
*now now - none of your Kenneth Williams jokes, purlease

I should just pm ya my comments...but this is very sweet...this song especially sounds like it's been out there for a while, rather than being composed in the last few hours. Maybe it's the familiar traditional waltzy feel...I don't know...very beautiful...and cinematic...

thanks again. I was thinking it reminded me of dylan's ""I'll be your baby tonight" but that's actually quite different when I listen to it. Weird, isn't it. I guess it started somewhere.
glad you liked it. My partner kept laughing to herself at the Whyeee bits which I take as a good sign.

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/03 04:56Seems track 1 has arrived! No idea where it came from - perhaps outer space. It has no words, so don't be waiting for any. Needs a bit of work, of course. All the usual excuses. Even so, not bad for a day's noodling...

Re:Post your demos here. - 2008/02/03 07:15I didn't mean to start a duplicate thread to this.. so here's my first track posted ! I am working out the kinks of pulling off a concept album based on alien abduction, or perhaps encounters.. or both.
Hah... I'm busy drilling all of criminal law into my brain. Fun times. I'm interested in hearing your album - especially if early Orbital and Autechre are influences! (I still listen to the brown album all the time.)

Re:Post your demo's here. - 2008/02/03 13:12Here it be, the first song, "Short Days." Short little acoustic ditty. Was originally thinking I would make this somewhat experimental, had some idea for putting some electric guitar parts in there...until I realized I didn't use a metronome when recording, and it would require it to be pretty well timed to make the idea work. Might still somehow do it. Or, just leave it the way it is now. Decided to leave it alone, work on some more stuff, decide later. Also see what kind of reaction I got too. So any feedback would be very welcome.
Basically, it's about "short days," in the sense that it's January/February, depression (well, technically, about keeping away from all that), and includes a chorus that any of us doing this whole album in a month thing are going to be saying about a million times until March 1. And yes, I show the fact that I'm a southerner (wishing for snow). But hey, I liked the lyrics, they worked I thought..
Most likely, hopefully by Monday, I'm going to have probably what will be the up-tempo rock songs that are going to go on the album up there, so keep a look-out for those if you want.
Most likely, I am going to try to give people feedback this year, at least when I can (I only have dial-up here at home, but have high-speed at my parent's and at work, so realistically, I'll have to wait until probably Monday to listen to anything).
Ha ha...i didn't see the link in your 10 other posts...
really groovy tune...love the returning subtle melody line...
