Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/25 00:53 I would try to Google it.

Here is what I found:

Good luck. I used to own a mandolin a long time ago, but it ended up as trade bait for something. (that probably got traded too)

Cheers,

Gary

PS-Mick, how do I get a copy of our CD for Hear? I was out of the loop for a while, so I am certain I missed some messages and e-mails.

Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/25 03:50 Hey Mick. I actually know a guy here in dallas that plays a mandolin. I went and jammed with him on my didge a few weeks ago . Not sure if he would be willing to loan it, but I'll ask at least.

Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/28 17:49 Got this taken care of. Tried several auctions on E-bay and finally found one. Expected to pay like $100 or so but found an auction no one was bidding on and got one for $8. Yup, eight bucks.

It's ain't nothing special at all, but I only need it for one song and if it can stay in tune that long I'll be happy with that.

I'll buy a better one later. I need this soon because it will take maybe 4 days to get the song ready for the mandy part, and maybe 8 days of practice (including those 4) since I haven't played mandolin in ages. And as I concept this piece I'm thinking fiddle. If it sucks ass, as it probably will, at least I'll be practicing while try to get a better one.

Now I need a fiddle player.

Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/30 11:01 Good luck with the mandolin, Mick. I got one from a second hand shop locally a while back and have been playing it a bit this year.

I love this page - it put the fun back into learning the instrument. Or at least uncomplicated the process

Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/30 15:16 Mick, I could put you in touch with a fiddle playing friend of mine. Lives in Alabama, but plays over the internet. I don't think he would say he's a great fiddle player, but it depends on what you need.

Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/30 15:48 Stu - I used to play mandolin quite a bit but it was a friend's and when I moved ..well that was the end of that. I did pick on up recently while on a vacation and realized I could still play the thing. So what better avenue to start all over then RPM.

Tangmo - Please pass me along his name. I'm trying to find a local just because it will be much easier to work on it together, but odds are I'll do it over the internet. Doesn't need to be an expert player but is going to have be a good improv player.

Re:Mandolin - 2008/01/30 21:21 Just be careful of the Mandolin Cafe, the site that Gumbo recommended. It is addictive and you may find you spend all your time posting in the forums and not recording your RPM project.
