MP3's - 2007/01/31 01:17 I had a thought. There is a possibility that there will be over 10,000 songs when this challenge is done. Some poor person at the Wire office is going to have to sit there and convert all of our cd's to mp3 format in order to upload them to the jukebox. Maybe it would be a good idea if everyone submitted a a copy of their cd in mp3 format.

cheers and good luck to everyone

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 07:52 That makes sense, actually

An entire album in mp3 form is small enough to be easily sent online, too

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 08:05 ...and then maybe make them downloadable so that people with huge hard drives like myself can put them on their non-internet-enabled computers.

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 08:08 I'm not sure but the nondownloadableness of the tracks may be due to copyright, intellectual property etc

I know i don't mind having my stuff downloaded for free but some people don't share that view

GREAT IDEA!

I've been trying to imagine the lunacy the RPM folks will be going through. An MP3 version will lessen the brain damage. What say ye RPM????

Good luck all!

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 09:16 That tought had occured to me just yesterday...that someone is going to have to rip all these discs to MP3. As if the admin hasn't had enough to do already...lol

Good solution, I have no problem with that

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 09:23 Yeah, I'd be fine with sending MP3s instead of a CD too. If we sent a link to somewhere the MP3s could be downloaded from, perhaps that would be ok.

I live in lil' old England, so dropping by in person on the deadline day is kind of out of the question...

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 10:13 It's really up to them if this would help or increase the clutter. It MIGHT be important what bitrate the Mp3's are encoded at or other details depending on how they've got it set up. Might be other issues too.

I'd be happy to send an extra disk of just Mp3's...if it would indeed be helpful. I'm guessing right now, they've already thought this through and are content to rip given the alternatives.

Up to YOU, Admin. We just wants ta help!

That's what I was thinking, sending an additional cd with Mp3's. Or possibly doing a dual burn with the mp3's on the same cd. Bitrate should be considered as well.

So what does The Wire want us to do?

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 11:09 Hello! These are all great thoughts, but for now we'd just like to see CDs, postmarked by March 1. Sure, lots of folks just burn a plain CD-R with their music, but we also got so much neat, often handmade album art last year -- check out the CD Gallery!

An audio CD is simple, fun, universal, and gives us a physical backup, in a sense, once we add the music to the (new) jukebox.

As far as the work of listening to and converting all that sparkly music... we're on it! That's the kind of work we LIKE!

If anyone has trouble with the postmarked-by-March-1 requirement, we will figure something out, but really most folks should be able to get to a post office of some kind.

Re:MP3's - 2007/01/31 11:17 Will we be able to see how many people listen to our music or how many download it?

I'm just curious...and possibly a little vain.
