Eligible songs - 2007/01/28 14:22 I know all the songs must be done in February, at least 10 songs or 35 min worth. After that is accounted for, is it ok to tack on other previously recorded materials, outside of the competition tracks?

My concept is an album about the planets (and various moons and space objects). The first track about Pluto was written way back when pluto was declassified as a planet. Then we said, oh man we should do a whole album, and promptly got lazy. So while i'll easily be able to do 10 tracks in February, it'd be a shame to do the whole album and leave off Pluto cause it was done last October or something. At the same time, I'd hate to violate the spirit of the contest.

if i didnt think of it in February, its not gonna be in it.
also, if your remix, try to reflect what you think about pluto now, as opposed to in october or whenever that was

And I've been hearing that many on here are using this as a purge of all the ideas they've never finished or put to tape, so I guess that could be viable

In my opinion, if you record it completely in February it's following the requirements pretty well

But since this a challenge and not a competition, you should think about what it means to you and why you're doing it before making your decision.

Re:Eligible songs - 2007/01/28 14:47 Yeah, I just think is a good opportunity to get me motivated and finish the rest of them. My bands album (www.myspace.com/jimmycarterexperience) took nearly three years (!) to complete, when it should have been done in 6-8 months. That was just due to peoples schedules, girlfriends, work, etc etc. Since this is a solo album and i'm doing all the parts, there should be no reason I can't get motivated and get them all done in 28 days. I always have good ideas and let them sit around and never flesh them out... I'm almost 26, its now or never I guess

Re:Eligible songs - 2007/01/29 15:48 Good lawd...Pluto has suffered enough indignity lately. Don't leave it out. The stipulation was 10 unreleased songs recorded in Feb. If you can do that and add Pluto as an 11th, please do.

Re:Eligible songs - 2007/01/29 17:32 I'm gonna chime here and say that thematically it kind of fits to have Pluto as a bonus/hidden track.

I imagine Pluto is feeling pretty lonely and left out, and this just says to me bonus track. It's part of things but also apart.

Beyond that, just do whatever feels artistically right and true to the whole.
