Want Everyone's Opinion - 2007/01/18 22:49 Hey Everyone,

I think it was Jim Tyrrell who told us about the Songfight.org website. (thanks Jim)

Cool idea, basic premise is as follows:

A title is proposed, and everyone comes up with a song based on the title. Best song wins based on user votes.

Here is what I am wondering: Does anyone want to take the basic idea (minus the competition part) and do it for the Challenge? If people are interested, maybe we ask the RPM Board of Directors for one or two titles, so there is no argument over who's title we use.

I am thinking it may be kind of cool if everyone had a song or two on their album with the same name, especially given the wildly different styles. Imagine the jukebox with 150 different songs all named "...whatever..."

Thoughts???

I've got t o agree that this would be a wonderful idea. When I saw the Songfight post I immediately checked it out and plan on jumping in there every once in a while. I've always found that a word or quick turn of a phrase can mushroom into a completed song in no time.

So I second (er 3rd) the motion!

Re:Who Wants To? - 2007/01/19 08:14 Sounds like a cool idea. Actually, I'd suggest simply participating in SongFight for the month. You'll get three or four songs for the project, and you'd get the benefit of SF community feedback and whatnot.

But yeah, if someone here at RPM were to suggest a song title for everyone here to riff on, that'd be cool too.

I think this is a really cool idea - I have wanted to get this kinda thing going with local writers for a while - it is a fun game to play - I have done it in the past and it can either inspire something profoundly beautiful or something so bad it is worth a few yucks! I'm in - I hope Peter agrees!

By the way - glad to be back! It rocked me last year to do this alone - and I love/hated every second...

Re:Want Everyone's Opinion - 2007/01/26 09:29 I'm involved in something similar with an online group of musicians every year on New Year's Day. About 20 of us (usually) pick a theme and all write and record seperate pieces with that theme as the inspiration...it has produced some great results in the past. There has been everything from full on artistic interpretation pieces, comedy or a play on "the word", to full fledged songs.

I think this would be a great idea to do as part of this project...it also lends one more thing for everyone to have in common over the next month (besides scrambling like mad for 28 days like everyone else...lol)

I'm certainly up for it if a theme gets suggested.

Re:Want Everyone's Opinion - 2007/01/27 00:45 Our ideas are fairly set at this point - we're trying to do a concept album, telling the story of a man who goes through life as a failure (oh, we're so cheery!) - but hey, it's an interesting idea, and if the shoe fits, I'll definitely give it a good think.
