Let the jukebox go live to bands (even if only for them to see their own stuff is in) long enough in advance to sort problems before the listening party.
If the workload is too great, look for a way to pass some of it off to the bands who would like to shoulder some of the load.
Can we get a status report on our problem please?

What to do now: Check it out! Log in and make a playlist! Update your information in the jukebox! Explore, listen and have fun! Send us feedback and lete us know what you think -- this is YOUR jukebox.
What NOT to do now: This is a brand-new release of a brand-new system -- when you find an error, a glitch, or an omission -- which you will -- do NOT shriek and pull your hair and sob. Rather, think to yourself "Ah-ha! I have a golden opportunity to help the jukebox engineers debug this new system and make it better! I'm going to send them an e-mail right now using the "contact the jukebox team" button on the home page to let them know what I've found!"

We're very sorry for the omission, so please make sure you e-mail the team so we can add you to the list of adds, changes and tweaks!

Dave,
thanks for the response. I will do that soon. BUT, my point still stands. This process needs to be improved for next time. There has to be a way for people to make sure they are included before the deadline is too close and there is no time to correct things.
I am not actually shrieking or pulling my hair or sobbing. Just very disappointed.

What I was trying to say was that we're encouraging all of you to help us find the problems with the jukebox and the data, because it's your jukebox and you can help! While we are very proud of the jukebox, it is by no stretch of the imagination complete or perfect -- so we hope that when people find a bug, an omission, or an error, they don't think to themselves "Ah crap, I've been screwed" and instead think "Ah-ha, this is one of the bugs they were talking about! Here's a chance for me to help by letting the jukebox team know by e-mailing them using the link on the Jukebox!"
We need your help to make this as good as it can possibly be!

Dave, I got that. And I am quite willing to help. You might have noticed that from the break, even the title of the post was:
VERY DISAPPOINTED - and a suggestion for next year.
So, I finally sent the email to the jukebox team a day or two ago. We are still missing at this point.
I do hope that for next year, something along the lines I suggest could be considered so as to lessen the chances of anyone needing to be disappointed at all.

Did you upload your album and track titles into CDDB as requested?
There are currently hundreds of anonymous tracks in the DB with names like "track 01". Some of them have been associated to bands. Some of them may have been erroneously associated to the wrong band.
I would suggest listening to the tracks that are available in the Jukebox with anonymous titles to see if any of them are yours. If you find any, I can probably fix the problem. If not, the CD will most likely need to be re-ripped (making sure you have updated CDDB to make it easier for the folks doing it) and the Jukebox team will get around to it as and when they can.

If you Emailed the GMAIL email off the Jukebox with a clear outline of who you are, what your band/album is and such.. Ken will get it in queue to be repaired - there are 1500+ bands, 16000+ tracks.. and yes holes in the data..
As far as your suggestion for NEXT YEAR - well it's a null issue. We are moving towards a USER CONTRIBUTED format - and the fledgling account services we have in places for bands now to login and mange all text/image data related to their submissions will include MP3 uploading next year.. So.. once the challenge is done, you'll have a couple week window to upload your tracks once the album has officially be received by RPM.
WE had THREE DAYS to import and review 2008 SUBMISSIONS. Yes I'm SPEAKING LOUDLY so that you understand that this is a highly relevant issue to us.. SO --- WE FEEL YOUR PAIN OF NOT HAVING BEEN ABLE TO REVIEW ALL DATA!
ON a more upbeat note.. MParker - who has kindly replied here.. is a new Jukebox volunteer who has FIXED over 150 disconnected Band User Accounts..
BRAVO TO HIM! WOO!!!
Thanks guys.. and THANKS for your overall support and understanding as we roll this MASSIVE application/database out to the world...

This is actually to Dave, mparker and Mosfet....
First, the disappointment I mentioned was re not making it in in time for the parties...
Having missed that, I am not just trying to work calmly and dilligently to get the matter resolved.
I don't recall seeing a request to upload the into to CDDB, but if I got it, I would have passed it on right away.
The last email contact I had said this:
"Turns out your album is still in transit from St. John's, Newfoundland. Luckily, they had ripped a copy for their listening party and were able to zip it up and mail the mp3s to me. So we're all set.
I'm sorry again for all the confusion. Thanks.
Chris"
It was from Chris Greiner.
I also pointed out that we had a wavpack file and a wav.cue file available if that were preferred:
Anyhow.. I'm ripping your CD on this very laptop right now and uploading to Jukebox myself... I'm going to officially label the future MP3 uploading feature for User Accounts - the method of Jukebox submission next year - the LAU FACTOR - just like I affectionately refer to the Home Page Random 100 Playlist Generator the "Wentzinator".
So... OK.. enough dilly dallying here..

Re:VERY DISAPPOINTED - and a suggestion... - 2008/04/08 05:57OK.. just need to wait for the DB to update.. and I'll test the tracks.. Took about 45 minutes.. would have been faster had I a mouse and not this damn laptop track pad.. but was made all the more enjoyable with the scotch. I've got 4-5 other CDs from the Newfoundland office which haven't made it into the Jukebox yet.. yours was in that group.. I'll get them uploaded over the next few days as time permits.. I'm on vacation after all!
ON TUESDAY - Can you please login, make sure you can access/edit your Band/Album info OK? Now there should be User, Band and Album tabs.. and the ability to edit al lthe text and upload images.. GO GO! your image will re-size to 200 x 200 pixels.. so may as well make your artwork the right size first..
Cheerio.. off to walk the dog... literally..

Sweet and thanks - just came by to post that we made it in...
Sorry you can't be here. It has been quite nice lately. A bit of light rain but mostly fine.
