Using Your Profile MP3 Player - 2008/03/07 06:02
OK, I know, it's kind of late for this kind of advice, but I only just figured out some of this stuff myself. I know of at least one other person that this was news to, so I figured I'd post a new topic to help others.
As you know, the storage space in your personal profile mp3 player is up to 40MB. For a lot of people, this will be enough for their entire 2008 album. (and thanks to RPM for the upgrade!)
But there are also further options that will not only allow you to add even more songs, but will make your lengthy playlist easier to navigate.
1) Your player can link to off-site mp3s.
Run out of space here because you have too many songs or prefer higher bitrates for your tracks? Just link to mp3s that are stored at another site (that is, if you can directly link to those files). For example, all of my final tracks are up at my own website and I've linked my profile player to those songs, allowing me to keep my demo versions stored here.
Here's how:
Go to Edit > Update Your Profile Click on the "Music, Etc" tab (5th one over in my profile) Scroll about halfway down to "Link to External mp3s" and click "yes" Now when you click on "Submit New MP3 File" you'll see the option "enter url to the desired mp3 file"
2) Change the size of your player.
Now that you have a bunch of songs in your player, they've gotten harder to navigate, haven't they? It might even be hard to select some of the songs in the middle of your playlist. Fix this by changing the height of your player.
Go to your profile and click on the music tab as noted above Go to the 9th or so option, "Media Player Height" Adjust as needed. For my 13 songs, a size of 350px was more than enough
You'll notice that you can also change the width and master volume of the player.
3) Everything else.
I haven't had a chance to play with everything, but I see options for allowing users to download your songs, launching the player in a new window, changing the color scheme, turning on autoplay, etc.
I just figured all of this out recently, right before RPM upped the storage to 40MB. But I believe my final album is more than 40MB anyway (and it's only encoded at 192kbps, some of you audiophiles may prefer even higher bitrates) so having these options is pretty cool.
Those who know more than I should of course feel free to add more info below!
