The Cheating/Challenge thread - 2008/01/19 19:14 I just commented in a blog and thought I'd put my comment up here to bump the thread to the front page.

Nobody gets banned. It's a personal challenge, and you get to decide what challenges you. For some that means writing everything from scratch during Feb. For others it means recording fresh versions of existing material. For some it means switching on the tape recorder for 35 minutes and burning a CD.

For me the ideas have started, and I'm making paper and audio notes without really trying to follow through too much. In the back of my mind is the idea of picking a dozen of the songs I wrote and recorded last autumn and taking them too the next level. (I usually accept the initial version of my songs so they don't evolve much.)

I still have the choice. Neither would feel like cheating because they would both be a challenge and I would have to work at producing an album in the time.

Indeed - 2008/01/19 19:38 Yeah, there's a million ways to say it, and I'm pretty sure it's been said- the challenge is yours to accept, and you alone will be the one to gain the benefit of such a challenge.

as far as sample based music goes its all good

a sample is not a prerecorded song but it does say all material must be previously unreleased so where do samples (as in loops) fall?
assuming the sample isn't infringing on copy rights of course

i think my personal rules will be:

i wont sample anything i've recorded before feb.
and i will only use samples that are cleared for me to use as if i was going make an album for mass distribution.

I'm so fucking excited it hurts when i pee.

usually discomfort during urination means you have an std.
