a useful device - 2008/03/01 19:32 i found that the most valuable item in my equipment aresnal wasn't a mic or guitar or effects processor. it was this little sony dictation recorder i have at work for meetings. like one of those micro-casette things but it's digital and even a little smaller. i carried it with me to capture some lyrical ideas, in the car when listening to the radio to make notes of cool stuff in songs, did some really quick song/riff sketches just on my acoustic at home (no mics to set up!). I even recorded a trashy, telephone like vocal track on it to use on my album!

more conveneint than a notepad, 4 track, or whatever for the songwriting process!

Re:a useful device - 2008/03/01 19:50 Yeah, those are great. I've saved quite a few ideas that likely would have vanished into the ether otherwise.

Sadly, I've a lost a couple of the things too. If you find one, I still hold copyrights on the contents.

Re:a useful device - 2008/03/01 19:51 Sounds cool. I was thinking of looking for something like that when I used my cell phones voice mail to capture a song(Which I couldn't save for very long ). What brand/model do you have?

Zoom has a mini 4 track with mics and effects. Looks about the size of juice box. A little big but seemed extremely powerful.

Re:a useful device - 2008/03/01 20:19 Yes, those are a must-have and have helped us immensely in capturing song ideas, melodies, and lyrics when and wherever inspiration struck.

And, when in a pinch, we've relied on calling each other's voicemail and leaving a message!
