Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/22 21:05All we'd really need is someone willing to, in March, make a spreadsheet of artists who want to participate and do a "secret santa" style doling out of that list at the right time. I'm sure I could handle something like that, after all the actual RPMing is done.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 04:52I did the same thing, only by myself. I listened to some of the music posted on the sample engine, and on other websites used by the participants, contacted them, and proposed exchanging CD's. I received something like 16 CD and sent that many. I plan to do more listening this year, and send out more proposals. I can't think of a better way to get some great music and get my own tunes into the hands of people who might appreciate it. ER

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 06:31Being the computer geek that I am, I don't really care about having an actual CD in my hand of someone's music. If I got a bunch of CDs, that would just mean that I would have to spend the time to rip them to my computer, and then figure out where to store the CDs.
So what do y'all think about online trading instead?
(Yes, I know that some people like having a CD in their hand, and I admit that the act of trading CDs with other participants has its own sort of appeal..)

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 14:21Most digital "traders" will likely post links either from their blog or in the forum— I wouldn't be surprised if an entire thread shows up at the end just for posting links to download music.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 16:46A lot of us created websites at virb.com for our music. If you haven't already: check us out. http://www.virb.com/dazzleships, there's even a "group" for the 2007 Challenge with links galore.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 16:59A real CD is nice to have especially with all the effort each person puts into February. But getting the music out to the widest audience is nice and easy with something like Virb. My 2 previous efforts can be found here http://www.virb.com/floppyjalopy/music/albums

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 17:26For the ZX81s stuff we just put a .ZIP up on Sendspace for all to peruse. Plus the oh-so-predictable Myspazz page. Got a fair few downloads from using both.
However, I like the "Secret Santa" idea! Or actually....
Anyone know how to write software that will download you a random 10 song selection from RPM??
With 8500 songs last year alone, you would never get the same mixtape twice! That would be rather nifty.
meanwhile in the world of realism.....!

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 19:29Nah, I like the physical albums. After all this work, the beautiful art, and everything it really is nice to get those packages in the mail that contain just a piece of someone else's creativity. It seems to make it more real, and I love the stack of disks I have from doing the RPM Compilations. Other then The Wire, I bet I have the most and I show them to people all the time.
I usually have about 5 in the car (right now, Tangmo, Muzik Produkt, Hacker Blinks, OHHO, and Litchfield) to play in the few rare times I'm not riding my motorcycle.
Maybe if you install a radio on your unicycle, you'd like the disks!

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 20:40Yeah, when you exchange something with somebody you create a link between you a him, and that's the kind of things I like. Downloading free music it's a cool thing, for sure, but so cold! C'mon we are human no ?

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/01/23 20:55just me...but it's disks or nothing. Even if I wasn't on a dialup connection, I'd still want it in my hands and Al Gore would just have to understand that.
Like Mick, I liked the trade, and the Compilation disks are the best music I heard anywhere last year. After the experience itself, they are what I most treasure about '07.
Besides...not everyone knows how to master for (and reduce to) Mp3, so I'd want it in the highest quality I could get it.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/02/04 09:50Hello! Please count us into this. We would love to receive some of your works in a memorable format. I'm going to do some fun designs I think for our project, so hopefully some of you can receive those and be pleased!
This thread should become the official Album Exchange thread. Maybe at the end we can dredge through it and come up with a list. Post "YES PLEASE INCLUDE ME" or something so we know you all are cool with this.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/02/05 10:01I would love to swap albums with any one that did the rpm. Heck I would even like to swap past years projects as well.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/02/05 10:50I would also like to get in on the action. I had a few trades set up that never materialized for one reason or another last year, and I was kinda bummed about it.
(I feel like i'm dooming myself to not finish by posting this)

I agree. I like to see people's album covers and read their "liner notes". Plus it's always nice to get something in the post that isn't a bill.

I like this idea better than just a grab bag type exchange, manly because I realize not everyone will dig my stuff. I would rather give someone something they would like than something they will only listen to for 30 seconds then store away, or toss out.

I agree completely, being able to download someones music is great and has its place, but the little bit of effort in burning a cd and shipping it out is worth it for me.
I like to have a physical copy, mostly for the artwork that people put into the packaging.

Re:Album exchange! - 2008/03/22 21:44I'm in on this too. If anyone in this thread wants to exchange CDs with me just give me a PM with your name and address and I'll send it out. I'll return your PM with my name and address.
It would be nice if there was a button to let others know. There's one band on here I really want a copy of badly and that's Lux Divon.
