The RPM Wall song - 2007/02/27 20:41 Sitting on a plane, wanting to be working, I find myself thinking how many times I heard "hitting the wall" in people's blogs. So, amazed I have any creativity left, I jot down "The RPM Wall Song" that really explains it all about getting to the finish line for a lot of us.

Of course, if some one's sort a song and then want some lyrics, here they are. Needs some work but no bad for a sleep deprived decompser that sings everything through a termite hollowed wooden log.

This Wall Within Me
aka Hitting the RPM Wall

I've come to the wall
Of the wailing ghosts
Where passage ahead
From pillar to post
Hits hardest in me
To where it hurts most

I stand at the end
Of the trip I made
And look at the wall
Of mental blockade
It moves before me
Like some sick parade

But I am not afraid

[Chorus]
This is the wall that I have made
It exists only in me
No other can see
The debt I paid
To reach the wall in my journey
I still can't get through
I still can't get through

Darkness exists here
My own creation
In a place of souls
I fight temptation
Resistance abounds,
A cold sensation

The voices fill me
With thoughts of disgrace
I cover my ears
Turn away my face
But the wall invades
All my breathing space

How did I come to this place?

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
It is my wall
After all
I can get through

If it stands here
I built it
I can tear it down

This wall within me

[Chorus]

High, straight, sheer, heavy
The taller it seems
Cold, chill, suffering
The ghosts and the screams
The rock and the beams
Holding back my dreams

One hand on the ghosts
That wail in the wall
Ascending existance
This once and for all
I climb in my head
At the top I call

I feel, I see, I heal all

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/01/11 02:54 Somebody needs to turn that into a Nine Inch Nails type song. The lyrics are perfect.

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/01/11 19:20 OK - let's all each of us put this lyric to music, submit all the songs under one project name (there aughta be at least ten of us who'd do it, huh?) and be able to compare our treatments of the material...

whaddya say, Mick? Make it a tribute album to RPM?

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/01/11 22:29 I agree....good concept, and good lyrics mick. I think I'd have to be in this too. Going to have to live up to alot here, good musicians here....fortuantly I'll be more prepared this time around, the songs won't be all rushed like they were last year.

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/01/11 22:51 Wow, I'd forgotten all about that late Feb on the plane bit of tired inspiration. Geeeesss that beings back so many memories of last year.

Reading that again so pulled me into that moment of late Feb grief when still one song away from being done I was shipped out on a business trip and had to master some stuff on my laptop in a hotel room. Never did get to finish that last song but I submitted it anyway-- it's "Memory" on Sojourn. Reliving that tiny piece of time, a slowed down passage that seemed to be hours long, just gets me excited to do it again this year.

Yeah, I'd love to hear some different takes on those lyrics. I was thinking like funky grunge industrial punk but it would be real cool see what people did with it.

I'll do the ear engineering and put the album together if anyone wants to do a version and send it to me! Maybe I'll even have time to do my version!

Hey folks, anybody taking this seriously? I'm afraid I've incorporated Mick's lyric into my project as the ONLY spoken/sung word piece that I've got, and unless I come up with a lotta cheese to fill time, the RPM Wall Song is going to feature prominently in my project. However, I don't see why there can't be some kind of compilation entry also... status, anyone?

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/02/24 21:34 f**k yeah. I'm doing this,

and to make it better, I'm going to finish it in one hour, tops.

Cover your children's ears, folks. My version will probably be no longer than a minute and a half.

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/02/24 22:46 Hah. It's done now. I gotta set the levels perfectly though.

However, my version is heavy on the no-wave vibe, underproduced, and almost nonmusical. I also get to mess around on my new fretless.

I put it up here: it should be the last song.

Re:The RPM Wall song - 2008/02/26 02:18 Okay, added my version of 'The Wall Within Me' to my Details page, or a slightly better version of it is here:

http://web.mac.com/moschell/Site/Contains_Language/Entries/2008/2/25_The_Wall_Within_Me.html

So, am I allowed to use this on my album?
