Pro Tool users - 2008/03/01 03:33 Some of you may already be aware of this, but it was brought to my attention this week. I tested it and I was just beside myself with how different the sound was. This is about the sound level while recording in Pro Tools. Apparently, there is some clipping that occurs is the mix is too hot. But we're not talking about crossing into the red above 0. We're talking no more than -4 and that's probably too hot. Its not a full clip, but there is this slight distorted quality. Pull the level back 2 db and the sound cleans up - a lot. There is a threshold somewhere in the software. The last song I did, I used really low levels on the recording and then added gain to the recorded material. It was like I was using a different guitar and bass. It's cool I know now, but it sucks I found out too late to fix this project.
